Maybeboard

Hey guys! So this is my take on Yawgmoth, Thran Physician. My goal with this deck was to make THE IDEAL MONO BLACK DECK. When you think of black, what do you think of? RECURSION. SACRIFICE. LIFE DRAIN. VALUE. Well that’s what this deck is all about! I do want to preface you in saying that this deck only has 1 tutor. It’s frowned upon in my play group. However, it is a tutor that can be abused with recursion: Sidisi, Undead Vizier. With that said, let’s jump straight into the main win conditions of this deck!

WIN CONDITIONS

The primary win condition in this deck is playing, sacrificing, and recurring Gray Merchant of Asphodel. There are tons of ways to do this within the deck. However, the main line is filling the yard with creatures including Gray before dropping a Living Death onto the field. You return everything, shooting your devotion through the roof! For obvious reasons, this works especially well if Archfiend of Despair hits the field along with the other creatures.

Exsanguinate and Kokusho, the Evening Star are next in line for win conditions. With the amount of ramp in this deck, it’s pretty easy to have an explosive turn with Exsanguinate. It has also proven to have some utility within the deck whenever my life total gets a little low. Kokusho is treated just like Gray in the sense that he will be recurred and sacrificed over and over for the win.

The last resort win condition is Abhorrent Overlord. He is actually in the deck for tokens and sac fodder, but he can most definitely win us the game if he is sacked and recurred a few times. We just swing in with a token army for the win!

HOW TO PILOT

This deck is loaded with cards that have to do with tokens:

Weaponcraft Enthusiast, Chittering Witch, Sengir Autocrat, Myr Battlesphere, Abhorrent Overlord, Pawn of Ulamog, Carrion, Dread Summons, and Szat's Will.

THIS IS NOT A COMBAT DECK. We will pretty much never attack unless it’s a free shot and we don’t need blockers. These tokens are simply sack fodder for our commander, Yawgmoth, Thran Physician. Sacrificing all these creatures and tokens, and then recurring them for more tokens will help us draw through our deck as well as weaken or remove our opponents creatures. We don’t have any cards that give us unlimited hand size because we want to DISCARD OUR CREATURES! We simply play creatures, gain value, sacrifice them to draw, control the board, recur the creatures, and do it all again until we fill our yard and find a win condition!

KEY CARDS

Nim Deathmantle -this card is a beast for recursion. This paired with any creature with an ETB is great, but paired with Gray or Kokusho is even better!

Mesmeric Orb, Gate to the Afterlife, and Undercity Informer -these cards are PHENOMENAL at filling our graveyard. Keep an eye out for these!

Soldevi Adnate, Crypt Ghast, and Nirkana Revenant -these creatures always overperform and ramp us to the moon! I especially love Soldevi!

Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth, Cabal Coffers, Crypt of Agadeem, Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, Petrified Field, Vesuva, and Crucible of Worlds -these lands are crucial within the deck. I wish there was a way to fetch them all! All we got is Expedition Map. The great thing is Vesuva gives you a way to copy one of them, and Petrified Field and Crucible of Worlds helps to recur them when our opponents target us with removal!

Thrilling Encore -this card is simply amazing. It is so versatile. It can protect us from board wipes, steal our opponents creatures, or even be used in our main phase to recur some of our own creatures!

UNUSUAL CARDS

Morality Shift -if you already have a Living Death or Twilight's Call in hand, this card can be game ending if played the turn before!

Temporal Extortion -I love playing this card and seeing the look on my opponents faces. They can’t believe it even exists! It amazes me how afraid people get when this is played.

Koskun Falls -here’s another card that nobody knows exist! This is always a game changer. The great thing is we can just tap down our commander or a token. We probably won’t be blocking with those very often anyways!

Gate to Phyrexia -black unfortunately only has 1 way in its entire color to deal with artifacts and this is it! It’s a great card. Not to mention, I bought it a couple years ago when it was still like $10!

Thanks for checking out my deck! Feedback and suggestions are welcome!
