Maybeboard

Wanting to get into Modern, I decided to pick up a deck that really suits me.

I'm mainly U. Secondary B. UB's always been the deck for me, in every format UB is where I want to be.

I'm mainly a control player. I love the draw-go playstyle, and I love thwarting my opponent's plan, be it by means of counters or Thoughtseize. But I also like having a board which can evasively bash in my opponent's head.

I like decks that are difficult to play, decks that you need to get used to, and decks that need to get used to you. Playing lots of matches, seeing new interactions, constantly tweaking your list... lovely.

Finally, I love fantasy stories, especially the bit darker ones...

Well, it turns out this is all available in one single deck! UB Fae is definitely the way to go for me. It has incremental advantage, requires careful planning, has an increasingly stronger counterspell - on an evasive body! There's discard, there's permission, mana lock... this deck is control on creatures. It doesn't seem to be a T1 deck right now, and I don't really care. It seems to be a deck that rewards skill more than any other.

I'd only played one game online, and I was sold. I played against a burn deck (not UR, and certainly not optimized, mind you), and he had me onto 8 life before seeing my first Bitterblossom. I really thought I was going to lose it, but then I could still get a hold of the game! Double Spellstutter Sprite will do that, especially when itself and Bitterblossom also count towards the Fae count. I put a clock on myself and turned around the game, and it felt awesome.

I've played a couple more matches since, and it's always a blast to play. I'm going Fae, and I don't think I'm ever going back.
