Feather, the Spellslinger Malletswinger [Primer]

Commander / EDH Equip Protection RW (Boros) Spellslinger Voltron

Casketbase77

Maybeboard

This build of Feather has high interactivity and an extensive Sunforger toolbox. Depending on the playgroup and state of the board, you can move mercurially between tempo-focused plays with targeting instants or straightforward Voltron attacks with your equipment suite.

Haymaker cards and noteworthy combos:

Try not to cast Feather unless you have mana to spare. Mox Amber and your 2CMC ramp can get you to 4 mana on turn 3. Springleaf Drum can target Feather after she comes out, but the threat of activating it is worth more than actually doing it. The same is true for most of your Instants.

Hand of Vecna is your best stat booster, but your second best target for all your Equipment tutors is Sunforger. The first thing you should grab with 'forger should always be Magnetic Theft, which functionally changes Sunforger's effect to "Once per turn, pay to freecast an Instant from your deck." Remember that modal spells like Boros Charm and Valorous Stance can be cast for their targeting effects, rebounded by Feather, then cast later for their alternative effects.

Impact Resonance often warps the table's decision process around it. It retaliates (and can even dissuade) any damage sent at you, it supplements your own pushes, and it piggybacks off any damage your opponents deal to each other. Just be sure to hit Feather with one point of its damage so she can reclaim it.

There is an official Judge ruling that Faith's Shield still targets after it's Fateful Hour threshold has been reached. This means in dire circumstances Feather can keep your board AND your critically low life total safe from any one color coming at you. As long as you have the White mana to allow repeated activations, of course. You can use Angel's Grace to endure an incoming onslaught on a critical turn, and Faith's Shield to sustain yourself many turns afterwards.

Win conditions:

This deck has plenty of cards (most of them searchable) that can turn Feather into a respectable Voltron. Invigorated Rampage, Fists of the Anvil, Antagonize, Blood Lust, Sunforger, and Hand of Vecna can pump her up to 7 power. In pairs or when combined with a doubling effect (Unleash Fury, wo-Handed Axe, etc.), these cards can pump Feather to 11 or 14 power, giving you a two turn Voltron clock. Cumulative stat boosts also come from Ring of Thune, Light of Hope, Light the Way, Regent's Authority, and Explosive Entry. It's also not hard to make Feather unblockable if you supplement her Flying with "protection from [color]" effects.

To finish off multiple opponents, use Sunforger and Mistveil Plains (the former can be Tithed out by the latter) to take extra turns. By casting Chance for Glory and Angel's Grace, you can take an extra turn and then dodge the "you lose the game" clause. Mistveil can return these combo cards to your deck to be Sunforged out again, netting you up to three extra turns in a row before your casts outpace your ability to recycle the cards. Still, four turns in a row should eliminate at least two opponents. Even if you still have an opponent left at combo's end, your creatures will remain Indestructible due to Chance For Glory's lingering effect.

As a final note, Cloudsteel Kirin (searchable via all the equipment tutors) can keep you alive long enough to pull off your Voltron win. A perpetual Angel's Grace effect also makes turtling behind Faith's Shield more viable and flat out enables infinite turns with the Chance for Glory combo.

Notes on the Maybeboard

Most of the cards here can be swapped in per your personal taste. There are a few I've found to be meta dependent though:

1) Young Pyromancer, Strength of Arms, and Castle Ardenvale provide tokens, which keep Feather alive against Grave Pact and other Diabolic Edict strategies. Path to Exile and Angelic Ascension are removal spells on their own, but they can also be used on your own tokens to ramp or create 4/4 Angels, respectively.

2) Akroan Conscriptor and Gisela, Blade of Goldnight each cost a lot of mana, but the former turns your 1CMC targeters into kidnap effects and the latter boosts your Volton damage while completely stopping 1/1 weenie rushes. Run by preference.

3) Pyroblast can be Sunforged targeting Feather. Nothing will happen (due to her not being Blue), and then Pyroblast will return to your hand for later use.

4) Scroll Rack, Nephalia Academy and Mavinda, Students' Advocate are nominal defense against hand rip strategies.

5) Hall of Heliod's Generosity and Underworld Breach are a two card recursion engine.

6) Aetherflux Reservoir is a more passive win con if the Chance for Glory combo is too salty for your table. Bump up your LP with Healing Grace, Moment of Triumph, any effect that gives Feather lifelink, and the Resevoir's own life gain effect powered by Storm-Kiln Artist. Remember that life gain also triggers the token effect of The Book of Exalted Deeds.
