Sideboard

Maybeboard

So, the idea here is to dig until you get a few key cards. Kind of fragile right now, but may turn into more of a control shell that abuses Jori's ability to find the combo.. where you ask?

The additional cost of buyback is counted when discounting instants and sorceries, so cast Mystic Speculation with Blistercoil Weird, untap Blistercoil, and bam! Recursion!

Beats can also be dealt, but wouldn't be the first choice. If it comes to it, swap out irrelevant cards for sideboard, then blitz your way to victory.

Seems legit, right? Work in process... any feedback is welcome!

Wow, is this deck fun to pilot! I have to admit, going in with this list had me skeptical, but watching the combo come together is the most wonderful of feels to experience!

Opposition: Daxos of Meletis Control Game 1, Round 1: Landed a T2 Isochron Scepter + Snap , which made me feel filthy. Much worth was had all game, needless to say. Almost got locked out with an opposing Isochron Silence, but the opponent got greedy when my end was nigh. I sat at 5 life, had Blistercoil Weird + Paradise Mantle + Sapphire Medallion + Goblin Electromancer in play, then continued casting Mystic Speculation into Grapeshot. Felt great.

Game 1, Round 2: This went pretty quickly once Voracious Reader  Flip was online. Otherwise, the Guttersnipe + Isochron Scepter + Vapor Snag and Thermo-Alchemist did most of the damage. Did not expect that to come through the way it did.

Opposition: Oliva, Mobilized for War Vampire Aggro Game 2, Round 1: Managed to keep the combo on this as well. Went much faster than expected, namely because the counter magic shut down aggressive attempts so well, followed by late game disruption.

Game 2, Round 2 & 3: Ended up drawing out too long and getting hit with removal. Once the battlefield was established for my opponent, there was little to do except keep digging, hoping for an out. Alas, no such luck.

There were a few things I took out of these games:

  • I never conceived Isochron as an integral part of my strategy, but it is the card I look forward to playing most now, especially with the number of options to attach it to in this deck!

  • The permutations of wins make the combo very stable, but requires time to set up. More disruption, removal, and even prison/tax effects would be beneficial. The deck can hold out well, and really only needs the support to manage it.

  • "Wow, I would have never conceived this... You are the Red-Blue player of our group. [Your] deck is a butt" -- My friend after playtesting
