Wanted to take a look at Rise of the Varmints. It's a bit of a unique card in standard and might be worth a build-around.
Looked around my decks seeing if there was a good prospect to fit it in, and I decided to try modifying an older sultai Aftermath Analyst Slogurk, the Overslime mill-ish deck with reanimators Squirming Emergence and Bringer of the Last Gift. It does like to put creatures in the graveyard so seems like a fit for varmints.
So the deck is packing a lot of trimmed-down packages for various plans seen in various sultai decks in standard:
There's the Aftermath Analyst Nissa, Resurgent Animist Worldsoul's Rage and the New Capenna sac lands plan.
That plan evolved with adding Slogurk, the Overslime and manipulating the Kamigawa channel lands Takenuma, Abandoned Mire Otawara, Soaring City Boseiju, Who Endures. That comes in too.
There's the Squirming Emergence plan with Founding the Third Path supporting and Jace, the Perfected Mind as a finisher and Atraxa, Grand Unifier and Titan of Industry as big plays.
There's the Invasion of Arcavios
Doppelgang plan as well, plus a handful of extra instants and sorceries in the sideboard to fetch.
I wanted to cram in the Bringer of the Last Gift niche plan, with Blossoming Tortoise and The Skullspore Nexus and Likeness Looter supporting the ramping/milling setup for the Gift play.
And now with Rise of the Varmints I want more leveraging of the graveyard. With more of a Lier, Disciple of the Drowned Conduit of Worlds vibe. I also feel like Defiler of Vigor is the kind of buff card that varmints is looking for.
That's pretty much it.
On paper all that looks too much, too crazy. But the cards in each plan do play well across plans. All the plans can fit in 60 cards. I'd expect each plan is too diluted but maybe it'll work.
