This is an attempt at a budget build for the Gisa from Midnight Hunt using Grazzet MTG's build found on Youtube (I can't seem to make the hyperlinks work...), but with lots of cards replaced with stuff I had lying around. I tried to make replacements with approximate effects but not all of them are close. I think my substituted version will suffer from a lack of being able to resurrect Gisa to keep her on the board and make her more resilient. That said, I have no intention of keeping this build "budget" and will ramp up the power of the deck as I get more experience piloting it. This will include more of the resurrect cards I didn't have on hand at time of building, as well as more powerful cards like Liliana, Dreadhorde General, Grave Pact, Dictate of Erebos, etc, along with a few of the cards Grazzet originally put in himself.

At this point I couldn't find much in the way of approximate effects so I just subbed in cards that I thought would be fun.

  • Desecration Demon-->Skirsdag High Priest: Desecration Demon is going out despite being largely untested. That said, given that I'm running up against lots of token tribal strategies, keeping it tapped and out of play wouldn't be difficult. This is the sub about which I feel least confident but, at the same time, I'm curious to see how Skirsdag High Priest performs.
  • Open the Graves-->Tainted Adversary: This one is just about getting more zombies upfront rather than over time. Having a fairly beefy deathtoucher will also allow me to get some more swings out, which remains the primary method of winning (combat damage) for the deck.
  • Crowded Crypt-->Liliana, Dreadhorde General: While Crowded Crypt's activated ability is certainly useful, Liliana just does everything this deck wants to do and for the same mana as Crypt's activation cost. Although I'm opening myself up to a counter here, I think Liliana will prove much better at breaking stalemates and a better value overall.
  • Tergrid's Shadow-->Dream Devourer: Foretell is such a fun mechanic that I want more access to it. This sub is definitely more on the experimental side.
  • Grimoire of the Dead-->Cabal Coffers: Coffers had to get in here at some point and Grimoire, while having a very cool effect, is better suited for something with better discard synergies.
  • Hostile Hostel  Flip-->Cabal Stronghold: While Hotel is a very cool card, that it can only be activated at sorcery speed makes it very awkward in the deck, as decayed creatures would die outside of its activation window.
  • Syphon Flesh-->Liliana's Reaver: There were a few games Syphon Flesh sat in my hand for much longer than most cards do. It seems like it would go in nicely in this build but maybe I'm a little too flush on sac effects at present. My hope is that Reaver will generate more tokens than two or three. Another highly experimental sub.
  • Kaya's Ghostform-->Blessing of Leeches: Although Ghostform is a little more flexible in it's application, more often than not Gisa is the intended target. Making it a repeatable effect instead of a one-time shot ought to make Gisa a lot more durable.

I know what you're thinking... "Where the %$^& is Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth???" It'll likely make it into the next round of substitutions, but I want to see if the two Cabal lands can run without it or if Urborg really makes that strong a difference. As it stands, eight cards already seems like too many substitutions in one round, but most of them are subs I've been leaning towards making since the beginning and I want to see if my intuition was good. As always, suggestions are welcome.
