Maybeboard


Hello everybody! Today I bring you a problem of mine. This deck is for a commander tournament next month and I'm having issues with all the cards I want in there. I simply don't have room within the deck for everything. So I'll list the 'extra' cards I have outside the deck now that I picked up for the deck. You generous people will hopefully give the deck list and the list of extra's a glance, some thought, and suggestions.

First, black and green isn't a color combo I use a lot. If you haven't guessed from my name's appearance, I like the Esper trio. Pairing any of those 3 colors up with either of the other two, or all 3 in one, is what I feel I'm good at. That is my comfort zone. I dabble with blue and green, but nothing more than casually.

Also I have some issues with the deck list as it sits.

I'm running green, I should have mana acceleration and artifact/enchantment hate. I have no ramp besides Sol Ring and Golgari Signet. So I'm lacking in mana ramp and hate of things manufactured and ethereal.

Why is this? Using Skullbriar as my commander, I want counters to throw on him. Those counters are suppose to add up, multiply and ignore subtraction and division.

Trying to get the deck streamlined along this thought, I simply don't have room that I can see for ramp or A/E hate in here. Also there is no room for removal. I got black in here, there should be some removal right? How am I suppose to be competitive in a multiplayer format if I can't ramp up for big spells or get rid of pesky enchantments, artifacts or creatures?

I don't see it working out. but to beef up my dude and swing is the name of my game right?

See my dilemma? It's freaking killing me.

So please do a guy a favor and tell me what you think!

Do I need the ramp and stuff?

What would you swap out for what?

Why?

Is it more synergistic with other cards in the deck?

Or is it a better version of that card?

  • Ramp: Harrow, Kodama's Reach, Lay of the Land , Explosive Vegetation, Skyshroud Claim, Explore are the cards I found among what I own for ramping and I got them laying in the pile alongside the deck.
  • Artifact/Enchantment hate: Acidic Slime, Deconstruct , Creeping Mold , Desert Twister, and Back to Nature are what I got laying aside.
  • Black removal: Go for the Throat, Doom Blade, Hero's Downfall.
  • Savra, Queen of the Golgari , she look like fun, but I don't think I got enough sac outlets.
  • Dreg Mangler , Sluiceway Scorpion , and terrus worm I grabbed because their scavenge cost isn't horribly overpriced, and it's nice to have them if I don't get Varolz, the Scar-Striped on the field. *but not necessary*, in my opinion, correct me if you think I'm wrong.
  • Spawnwrithe, this guy is cool, He comes out sooner then his big brother, Giant Appendage or whatever he's called and I did want tokens as another sub-theme in the deck, but in the end, I didn't seem to have enough room to make it consistent enough to matter.
  • Vhati il-Dal, Just seems like he could mess shit up.
  • grave tiatan, again tokens. C'mon I'm running Doubling Season and Primal Vigor!
  • Liliana Vess, mainly would use her as a couple more tutors. ( in know she's not a creature.)
  • Pharika's Mender, recursion. But I also got Phyrexian Arena and Serene Remembrance , if not a couple more I'm not remembering right now.
  • Archetype of Endurance and Archetype of Finality. Both are badass I think. But if I have to choose, Achetype of endurance is what I'd rather have in here.

The mana base will be upgraded as paydays come, hopefully. If you happen to think of any good utility lands, let me know!*
