I wanted to turn my modern Sidisi mill deck into the pioneer format. It ended up looking like a Golgari mill deck from Journey into Nyx. I didn't want to go all in on graveyard shenanigans with graveyard hate aplenty floating around. There is a devotion sub-theme since a lot of the creatures are perfect for it.
Turn 1 Elvish Mystic for the ramp. Deathrite Shaman is the next best choice. He can ramp off a turn 2 Satyr Wayfinder or Commune with the Gods if you mill some land. I prefer Satyr on 2 if Shaman is turn 1 to build board presence.
Lotleth Troll is really a turn 3 for the regeneration. Best turn 3 is Nighthowler to take advantage of those milled creatures from turn 2. Courser of Kruphix is great if you didn't get to mill on 2. He blocks, helps you dig for land, and a little life gain. Also Boon Satyr for the sneaky block.
Turn 4 would be bestow Nighthowler on a Lotleth Troll and swing. If that setup doesn't come together there's Eidolon of Blossoms and plenty of enchantments to draw cards. Possibly discard some of those cards to Lotleth Troll late game.
Shadowborn Demon on turn 5 because who doesn't like a giant flier with an ETB. If you have some extra mana available you can pump a creature with Nylea, God of the Hunt and it gives all your creatures trample. Pharika, God of Affliction makes enchantment creature snakes with deathtouch at instant speed for blocking.
Without fetch lands Fatal Push is off the table so Sinister Concoction is the replacement. It's not really a 1 drop removal but it fits nicely here. It counts as 1 toward devotion, an enchantment to draw cards with Eidolon of Blossoms, can pump the graveyard at instant speed with a small mill/discard, and a card the opponent will have to remove before they drop an impressive creature.
Strength from the Fallen is the best card in the deck. It's repeatable creature pumps that also stack with Nighthowler.
Not having the fetch lands hurts a little. So I used a lot of dual lands because of the cards mana intensity.
Tips:
Lotleth Troll can discard at instant speed to pump itself or Nighthowler. Pharika, God of Affliction plus Strength from the Fallen combine to make a deathtouch blocker and pump a blocking creature at instant speed.
I took out Nyx Weaver for Eidolon of Blossoms so that I don't have to deal with uncontrolled milling and I won't overextend into graveyard hate. Weaver is slow to return anything to your hand. I'd rather dig deeper into my library than recur a card especially if I don't have a graveyard. Grisly Salvage was a possibility because it's an instant but it didn't hit enough cards. With all the 3 drops Kruphix's Insight and Benefaction of Rhonas got cut. Dropped Jarad, Golgari Lich Lord. He doesn't do anything the turn he comes down unless you have 7 mana to use his activated ability. Though he can really win the long game.
Sideboard:
Caustic Caterpillar to take out graveyard hate cards. Rest in Peace and Leyline of the Void kill us. I sometimes use it in a similar way that I use Sinister Concoction. The opponent has to remove it first. Also I didn't like having to keep 3 mana up for Reclamation Sage.
If your opponent doesn't start the game with Leyline of the Void and you're on the play you can grab their graveyard hate cards with Brain Maggot.
Loaming Shaman has 2 roles. Graveyard hate built into a creature and can be used to protect yourself from being milled out.
Nylea's Disciple for the aggro/burn matchup. Looking to replace with the new card Setessan Petitioner.
Whip of Erebos or Doomwake Giant. I can't decide.
