This deck seeks to make use of the VOW cards that synergize with toughness, mainly Catapult Fodder  / Catapult Captain  , Ancient Lumberknot and Unhallowed Phalanx. The key cards of the deck are commons and uncommons so it's easy to keep the deck on a budget.

I have just recently returned to MTG and the cards in standard are still new to me. I'm open to suggestions and help to improve this deck and improve its consistency, especially in the land department.

Our main synergy with toughness comes from the abilities of

Which allow us to either deal damage and attack using our toughness, or to sacrifice our creatures to deal damage directly to our opponents. These abilities paired with big butts like

Allow us to deal damage directly to the opponents without having to attack through their blockers.

The remainder of the deck add removal, mana sources, and creatures with high toughness to allow us to delay until we obtain our key cards, and to consistently have the mana to play them. The strong bodies on the cards will let us block and prevent damage until we can assemble our damage sources and win conditions.

Option 1: Attacking and dealing damage with toughness with cards:

Option 2: Sacrificing creatures and dealing damage with toughness with cards:

We can also use Scourge of the Skyclaves which can be sacrificed for a win if the highest life total between players is 10, or it can be used for an instant win if you have 7 mana to cast Scourge of the Skyclaves for its kicker cost, and an additional 3 mana to use Catapult Captain  's tap ability. Because this deck is trying to stay budget, we are only running 1 Scourge, though running 2 or 3 might be better, let me know in the comments.

Also, we can use card: Malakhir rebirth to target one of creatures before we sacrifice it with Catapult Captain  , or before we block with it. This way, we bring it back and we can likely deal lethal damage when it comes back the next turn.

The new card Dig Up allows us to either grab a land if we need it during the early turns, or to tutor for one of our combo pieces when we need them.

Until we get our key cards, we need to delay using our more able-bodied creatures

As well as smaller creatures to help with board presence and to round out the mana curve

These cards also help as mana sources, and to thin out the library to improve our odds to obtain our key cards.

Speaking of thinning out the library, these are the cards that help with that purpose

To help us delay and prevent us getting overrun if we can't get our main blockers on the board while assembling our main pieces, we add removal cards like

Both card: binding of the old gods and Culling Ritual can also help with mana troubles if need be.

The cards we rely on for our win conditions cost between 3 and 5 mana, and we do not want to be in mana troubles especially when we can run the risk of getting overrun by low cost creatures and aggressive decks. For this, we add these cards:

Which can both create a Treasure token,

Which can both be played as lands (or be tapped for mana) if need be,

Which can help us fetch lands (along with Evolving Wilds),

Which can make a land produce 2 mana instead of 1, and

Which can produce mana as it removes low-cost threats.

Filling our deck with a lot of options for mana sources should ensure we don't run into any mana troubles.

Here, we run mainly Forests and Swamps in order to keep the deck on a budget, though cards like Deathcap Glade, Kazandu Mammoth  , Lair of the Hydra, or Necroblossom Snarl may be a good addition. Suggestions are always welcome as I know some improvements can be made here.

I am also considering these cards for the deck,

As it allows us to get some of our pieces on the board without paying the mana cost,

As it has a decent body and can generate mana if needed

As it plays with thoughness, has a good body, and could make us gain 13 life in a pinch. However because of its high cost it might be a little too slow

As it has a decent body, deathtouch, and poison counters sound fun but I find it makes the deck in general not as focused.

Thanks for reading. Again, please add your suggestions for improvements to make this deck as fun and consistent as possible!
