This is a modernized version of the Golgari Explore shell that was my favorite deck in standard for the time of its rotation.

I am well aware of the fact, that this deck is strictly worse than Hardened Scales Affinity. My plan is to give the explore mechanic a little love in modern, while staying more or less competitive in an LGS environment.

Buff your creatures constantly generating and multiplying +1/+1 counters while disrupting the opponents gameplan BG midrange style.

The Explore-Mechanic Show

The big difference between this list and the classic GB Midrange deck is the strong utilization of the Explore keyword. We use this for two effects:
1. Explore thins out our deck, assuring us land drops and lets us dig for value
2. Enables a nice +1/+1 engine consisting of Wildgrowth Walker + Winding Constrictor and our Explore cards Deadeye Tracker , Jadelight Ranger and Merfolk Branchwalker

This list can be easily modified to become a classic GB Midrange deck (aka. The Rock) or be transformed into a variation of Hardened Scales .

You may also go ahead and splash for blue or even white. I have only tested this with the budget version of this list but it was effective enough to be worth investigating further.
