My new project for Theros, the new block that is coming. I used to play with a Selesnya (GW), then a Morglen (BGW), and now I was considering going back to Selesnya as Theros releases, but I decided to go for Golgari (BG), seems stronger for me.
Basically, this is the first draft of my new deck, probably it is going to be improved later, but it should work like this:
The two basic creatures which are going to win the game are
Staunch-Hearted Warrior
and
Centaur Battlemaster
, both have Heroic, which is an ability that will trigger everytime I aim spells to them, they get +1 counters when it happen. And that is the point where magic begins. Playing together with Corpsejack Menace and
Strionic Resonator
we get a lot of potencial on these creatures. Also, I got some cards which works with
Strionic Resonator
(any card with triggered abilities, anything that starts with "when", "whenever" or "at").
Cards like the
Ordeal of Nylea
get better when you have the Resonator to duplicate the counters, plus, if you get the Corpsejack Menace on the battlefield it turns into an one turn resolution of the Ordeal, effect that also can be duplicated by the Resonator.
So, the deck is going to work based on +1 counters and triggered abilities improved by
Strionic Resonator
. The creatures will get fat in no time, Unflinching Courage will do the job with Trample, Bow of Nylea will scary their monsters with the Deathtouch and also trigger the Heroic creatures with it's +1/+1 ability. And there is still an secret weapon on the deck.
With the new Heroic system
Dying Wish
became something really useful. Imagine you landing your Corpsejack Menace on third turn,
Centaur Battlemaster
on fourth and using your six mana on turn 5 to buff the Centaur. One
Dying Wish
, one
Ordeal of Nylea
and maybe using the another two mana to activate your
Strionic Resonator
in case you could drop it on turn 2. In one turn your
Centaur Battlemaster
got +6/+6 from the
Dying Wish
, +6/+6 from
Ordeal of Nylea
and got +6/+6 from
Strionic Resonator
. It's fat, really fat. It became a 21/21 creature in one turn. Then, on turn 7, if opponent still alive, what do you do? Drop Vraska the Unseen or use Doom Blade or
Putrefy
on your own Centaur. It is 21 damage on opponents life. And even if he uses something to get some life points you can still duplicate the effect of
Dying Wish
with the
Strionic Resonator
, since it is a triggered ability, "WHEN enchanted creature dies, target player loses X life and you gain X life, where X is it's power".
Well, the idea is pretty good and the deck became solid now. I will run some tests on FNMs and T2 champs and see how works. On playtests it showed itself pretty good, becoming letal around turn 5 to 7, acceptable since it is a midrange deck, not a monogreen all ramp.
Any constructive critics are welcome, plus, I made that sideboard (and maybe board) to complement the deck.
Thanks and have fun!
