Old school control deck playing almost entirely at instant speed.
Since the current meta is so full of value decks it is pretty hard to keep up with the raw
card and mana advantage 4c omnath can provide.
It's also pretty hard to race a deck like oops, all spells or outgrind the UGxxx Uro piles.
Unless your deck is ckockfull of Counterspells, removal and card draw, that is.
All these decks get seriously hampered if one can just counter their advantage engines, combo pieces etc. So we seem pretty well positioned in the current meta.
Sadly we have two glaring weaknesses;
The biggest two problems we have is 1)Burn and 2) T3feri, the interaction-ender.
Burn is unbeatable in game 1 and still pretty rough G2 and 3.
Even when we board in kalitas and more removal it is an uphill battle against a gatling gun.
At least it's very possible to just counter or remove problem number 2 in many cases but if they can stick him, we're in big trouble because our deck can't operate the way its intended to.
Regarding some card choices we run the full playset of Shark Typhoon and 2 Gearhulk as our finisher of choice.
Typhoon is one heck of a versatile card and just ends the game in a pretty quick fashion if we can comfortably stick it.
Gearhulk has "value" written all over him and is very hard to kill for many decks since he is immune to the most popular removal.
Last but not least we play 3 copies of Dig through time wich gives us crazy card quality coupled with card advantage.
Flashing this back with a gearhulk is game-ending in many cases.
Lastly I want to talk about a glaring omission in this list, namely Thoughtseize.
That card is crazy powerful as everyone who ever played VS it should know but I don't think it's a good choice in a pure control deck like this.
For Thoughtseize to be at its best it should be coupled with a game ending combo or a fast clock.
It opens up a window for those strategies in wich a deck can capitalize on it.
This deck plays neither of that.
We normally don't want to ever tap mana in our own turn and we don't play any form of combo or a fast clock but we grind down our opponents.
A topdecked Thoughtseize in this situation is often just pretty bad and can't compete with a hand full of Counterspells and removal.
Thoughts and ideas are welcome.
