Sideboard

Maybeboard

This is my take on RG Dragons currently. I run the normal Thunderbreak Regent and Stormbreath Dragon package as well as Dragonlord Atarka. Ashcloud Phoenix helps just fly over the field when needed. Two in the main and two in the board. Ramp consists of Elvish and Rattleclaw Mystics. The Sylvans are being replaced with the more Mystics as I get 4 ofs. Yea I don't have 4 Elvish Mystics. I quit Magic for a while and I was never a green mage in the past so I dug up what I could when I made this. 3 Elvish 3 Rattleclaw and 2 Caryatids are working nicely so far though.

I'm trying to change this deck up a bit but is based on Chris VanMeter's build. I have 4x Den Protector in the mail I'm considering putting in the build somewhere. Maybe just 3 but I want to playtest them some more first.

So I was invited to sling cards at a local convention center. Little did I know it was a full fledged comic con with cosplay chicks running about. Made for interesting atmosphere to play in. Anywho let's get to the brass tacks. I played this list at this event...almost. The changes I made as such:

Genesis Hydra out Xenagos, God of Revels in Xenagos just feels more consistent overall in this deck and lets me finish quicker.

Atarka's Command sideboarded Draconic Roar +2 Moving up to 4 copies of Roar is nice. The Command is nice too but I feel like this deck doesn't always want what it offers. I side Command in against control match ups as another threat.

Sarkhan, Dragonspeaker out Xenagos, the Reveler +1 Stormbreath Dragon +1 These were changes I've had every intention of making once I bought the additional copies. Sarkhan made for a nice place filer, but sadly his days were numbered once I found what I wanted.

I played 3 rounds at this random comic con of sorts. I also played a brief casual game beforehand. I went 2-1 with it and only lost to my normal lose which is RW Aggro.

Casual: The casual game was a Mono Green Devotion deck with Hardened Scales Den Protector and other morphs and counter creators. He was able to build up large creatures out of virtually nowhere. I had a hard time with that match up.

Round 1: RW Aggro 0-1 Everytime I play this guy he stomps my dragons builds. Even when I played Jund Dragons I hated it. Smart player. I got mana screwed too so right when I play my Rattleclaw to finally mana fix, he burns it. No surprise.

Round 2: Abzan Aggro 1-1 I drew my Draconic Roars early and this saved my ass. Revealed a Stormbreath and then started the assault. Game 2 was his turn to get the mana screw.

Round 3: Sultai Control 2-1 I was never nervous of losing this match. I started the aggression quick with some Rattleclaws and dropping Thunderbreak on turn 4. He either had a poorly constructed deck or drew crap. I didn't see anything that rattled my game the entire match. Easy win.

I played a Sealed event after we finished the Standard and cracked open a Sarkhan Unbroken from my prize pool. I considered splashing for him but don't know if that's such a good idea. I like that this deck is starting to feel more consistent and don't want to throw that off. I may goof around and try him out but I don't think that will be a mainstay.
