"Do you like surprises, do you like neat little monsters? Oh boy, do I have the EDH deck for you!" I gave this commander another shot after the spoiler of Grenzo, Havoc Raiser, Gonti, Lord of Luxury, Panharmonicon - at that point I knew I had to have them!

These are all ways I closed out entire multiplayer games with already:

  • Grenzo, Dungeon Warden + Heartstone + Ashnod's Altar + Epitaph Golem to recurr any Creature as often as you like. Gonti, Lord of Luxury works pretty well here, since he has the same base power as Grenzo and can exile everbodies libraries if played infintely.
  • The damage Blood Artist + Falkenrath Noble + Zulaport Cutthroat deal sums up quickly and can kill people outside the attack step. We can trigger them by either recurring&saccing our own or killing our opponents creatues. They are also just great survival tools!
  • Flayer of the Hatebound + Ogre Battledriver (+Panharmonicon), stack the triggers so you buff the creature with ogre first and then it does damage equal to its power through flayer. With Panharmonicon both triggers will happen twice! So a creature gets +4/0 and does damage equals twice its power to a creature or player.
  • Our commander "can" be played as Voltron. Tenza, Godo's Maul especially gives our Grenzo +3/+3 and trample. If I got a "buff-equipment" before Grenzo, I tend to play him for just 2 mana and keep the rest for equipment costs. Godo, Bandit Warlord can search up more Equipments to protect and buff Grenzo even further. Keep in mind that Sword of Feast and Famine is only 2 mana to equip and is probably the best to tutor up to finish the game quickly.
  • Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Zealous Conscripts, duuuh. 99% of the EDH community know this combo. We are not bound on the combat step, Blood Artist will also do inifite damage when all tokens have to be sacrificed end of turn. Or you could sac all creatures into Ashnod's Altar to deck yourself with Grenzo activations for no reason at all.
  • Balthor the Defiled: In case the pace of the game is just extremely slow and the board gets wiped alot, you might have some winning combos or just a ton of creatures in your Graveyard already. Get them back before your turn starts, kill creatures your opponents got back with your removal ETBs. Attack with your creatures or sacrifice them for Blood Artist triggers.
What to expect from this deck:
  • No Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Relentless Rats, Shadowborn Apostle, Goblin Tribal or Modular crap!
  • Janky, Jundy goodness without the comfort of ramp spells or enchantment removal "yay!"
  • An entire strategy counterable by Hushwing Gryff, Grafdigger's Cage and Phyrexian Revoker.
  • No Tutors (cough, well some)! Lottery-style gameplay granting lots of fun WHEN your prayers to RNGesus have been heard.
  • No Card Draw! You like to draw your answers? Then this deck is definitely not what you're looking for.
  • All Permanents: getting hit by Chaos Warp is not hindering us at all. Warp World will probably be your new favourite card.
  • Low power creatures to guarantee all of them entering the battlefield when Grenzo has at least 4 power.
  • A very high amount of mana-dorks instead of rocks. Yes they are slower, but don't rot in our graveyard. Same goes for instants and sorceries.
  • There's only one way to go Infinite with the deck:

Grenzo, Dungeon Warden + Heartstone + Ashnod's Altar + Epitaph Golem to recurr any Creature as often as you like.

Due to Heartstone, Grenzo and Epitaph Golem's activation cost will be , therefore any creature sacrificed to Ashnod's Altar will give us enough mana to pay both.

Your playgroup should be fine with it, since you require some luck to gather all combopieces on the field, without help of any draw or tutors. I don't play Zealous Conscripts or Mikaeus, the Unhallowed + Triskelion, since 2 card combos are not what I define as "fun".

    How to maneuver this deck:

Generally we want to stay low profile in multiplayer, play our manadorks, put a 4/4 Grenzo on the field and start loading the barrel. Make sure you look ahead! In an ideal scenario we want to use Grenzo outside of our turn as a reaction to a creature entering the battlefield or attacking - and obviously get lucky. Just be careful, a spontaneous Nekrataal entering to destroy the enemies Xenagos-pumped Void Winnower might be too much MLG-Dorito-Mountain Dew to handle for you. It might sound stupid, but always try to get the most value out of your creatures. Try recurring the most powerful ETB as often as possible Tel-Jilad Stylus. We are trying to snowball out of control ASAP, restocking after a board wipe is possible, but you lose momentum and often can't catch up anymore, although Balthor the Defiled on a freshly emptied board can win us the game out of nowhere. We don't really like to see black, hexproof, shroud, artifact creatures on the board, since some ETB creatures of ours won't be able to remove these. You can play around that with Edict-type effects Fleshbag Marauder, adjusting the colour Scuttlemutt or removing hexproof/shroud Arcane Lighthouse.

    Updates Add

Major Changes planned with the next Update:

    • Reduction to a maximum creature power of 3 to reduce grenzo's mana cost
    • Increasing the creature count and therefore consistency of hitting flips with Grenzo's ability
    • More combos to end the game while being ahead and tutors on a stick for higher consitency
