Linear GW bears deck with Crucible of Worlds for #value. Experimental.
The aim of the deck is to play cheap, powerful creatures like Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Voice of Resurgence, and Mirran Crusader, generating card advantage from Courser of Kruphix, Tireless Tracker, and recurring Horizon Canopy.
4 copies of Ancient Stirrings, Birds of Paradise, and Noble Hierarch mean that the deck can operate on very few lands and have some powerful openers.
Ghost Quarter
+
Leonin Arbiter
can net some quick wins.
Some considerations:
As with any good hatebears deck, very few of the numbers are hard and fast. The numbers of all of the 3-drop creatures (and Voice) can probably be tweaked based on meta, preference, and overall gameplan (this build is more value-focused).
Azusa, Lost but Seeking might be too cute or better off as a one-of.
Aether Vial might be unnecessary given the number of mana dorks, low curve, and general lack of control decks in the modern meta.
The sideboard is very rough. YMMV.
Is this deck good?
Probably not, but it's fun to play.
Why are you not playing Ramunap Excavator?
Crucible is mostly a value engine rather than the core win condition for the deck, so it seems unnecessary to play more than 3. Excavator can't be hit by Stirrings, is easier to remove, and I don't think Chord/CoCo are where the deck wants to be.
Why are you not playing Knight of the Reliquary?
We don't want to play fetches (because of Arbiter). Rather than playing silver bullet lands the deck runs 4-ofs of the important ones (GQ, Canopy) and Stirrings, which means less room for Forests/Plains. We could run Temple Gardens, but the Thickets are generally better. All this means KotR has few targets and isn't even particularly useful without a Crucible in play.
Why are you not playing xyz land?
Similarly, silver bullet lands are not particularly useful. The lands being played are good without Crucible and fuel the overall gameplan, which couldn't be said for cards like Haunted Fengraf, Eiganjo Castle, or Bojuka Bog.
Isn't Rest in Peace a nombo with Crucible?
Yes, but the matchups where you're bringing in RIP are usually ones where you board Crucible out (e. g. Death's Shadow, Living End, Grisel*). RIP is such a powerful effect that it outweighs the potential conflict.
