Sideboard

Maybeboard

I started this deck with GW Hatebears and GW Maverick in mind, but as I don't own any of the (expensive) utility lands that are used in Maverick (such as Wasteland) I tried to make it a more simple beatdown deck and omit the Knight of the Reliquary because this deck has no useful lands to fetch (with the exception of Karakas ).

The idea is to use Birds of Paradise and Green Sun's Zenith (x=0, fetching Dryad Arbor) for acceleration into big beaters and kill your opponent in about turn 5. Loxodon Smiter and Fleecemane Lion are the main beaters, that can be pumped with Wilt-Leaf Liege (GSZ-target), Silverblade Paladin and Shield of the Oversoul (providing some important evasion).

This while disrupting your opponents noncreature spells with Thalia, Guardian of Thraben and GSZ-target Gaddock Teeg. And Swords to Plowshares to get rid of opposing creatures/blockers. The remaining GSZ-targets provide a situational toolbox.

You will have played out your hand at about turn 4-5. At that time you can use your mana to make your Fleecemane Lion monstrous). After turn 5 you should be in a winning position; if not, you will probably lose to players with card advantage. I thought of adding some cards that can provide card advantage to this deck (GSZ-target Heartwood Storyteller or Warriors' Lesson?), but I am not sure adding these is an improvement.

Sideboard is still under construction and depends of course on the meta. I do like the Ulvenwald Tracker in the SB for recurring creature removal that can be found with GSZ.

Please let me know if you have suggestions for improvement. Thanks!

UPDATES:

  1. I may need more evasion ( Brave the Elements ?). Sometimes I found myself having a big beater in play, but unable to finish the came because of some annoying blocker (f.i. Stillmoon Cavalier or some flying token army). Or maybe something that provides trample (Nylea, God of the Hunt is a funny GSZ-target, but probably too much mana).

  2. I am not sure if I should include Wilt-Leaf Liege main board. It is very nice if it is in play, but it costs 4 mana and even 5 mana to fetch it with GSZ. Maybe that is too slow. Let me know what you think.

  3. I put the Ulvenwald Tracker in the mainboard replacing the 4th Swords to Plowshares.
