Commander: altered Karametra, God of Harvests

Sideboard

Maybeboard

I love creatures. Creatures are my favorite card type in Magic. My second favorite card type? Land. So while many people agree that Karametra is one of the most underwhelming gods of the Theros pantheon, she holds a very special place in my heart. I've always wanted to do something with her, and for a while I got so stuck on the Landfall idea that I just sort of had a deck that was sort of a mediocre collection of Zendikar cards (Zendikards).

Then something clicked, and I started building a deck with a new game plan. I forget what exactly got me to this idea; I think it was building a bunch of creature-based green Elfy decks in Modern. Regardless, my idea for this deck was casting utility creatures using Karametra's ability to ramp into large threats while gaining value via the creatures. As a result, the goal is to get a solid mana base early to summon Karametra as soon as possible so she can benefit me from casting various little rinky-dink creatures for value. Reclamation Sage can remove enchantments and artifacts, Wood Elves and Farhaven Elf can double up on ramp, Mother of Runes keeps my early utility and my later threats safe, and so on. Casting all these creatures for their value lets me interact with the board early on, and keeping Karametra back and safe will allow me to keep expanding my mana base to cast more utility and eventually start threatening the board. That's why the deck's mana base is primarily basic lands; not only is fixing not as dire in a two-color deck, but it's easy to get the colors you need when every creature comes with a Rampant Growth. The lands in the deck that aren't basic are included for their utility, for early color fixing before the festival is online, or just because I like them personally and think they're neat (Titania does love lands that sacrifice themselves for value).

All my threats are made to be as terrifying and powerful as possible. Green and white are the creature colors, so my goal is to win by attacking for 30+ damage at a time. While I include a small enchantment subtheme and a handful of instants and sorceries for their effects, the deck wants to be primarily creatures and lands, because those are the two types that interact with Karametra. Any non-creature in the deck has to either protect creatures, find creatures, or make creatures adequately terrifying, especially if it manages to make a whole board terrifying as opposed to one creature.

I drafted up the decklist first and then went through my collection trying to find as many of the pieces of the deck as I could, and I managed to find almost precisely 75% of the deck in my collection. The 25% I don't currently own or couldn't find are currently in the sideboard and are on my buylist for the next time I have the spare funds when I go to the store. Cards in the first draft of the deck that got cut for space that I'd like to keep in mind for future revisions are in the maybeboard and aren't in the deck proper at the moment, but are noted on the side as cards that could come in if I had a need for them. I don't have any way to note the cards that I'd be cutting for the cards in the sideboard, but safe to say I'm pretty sure once that time comes, I'll know what to cut when I get the proper cards.

The deck has only been tested a few times, and has managed to win once. Kind of. It's a long story, but I basically got 99% of the way through the game and would have lost if I didn't find exactly the right answer, which happened to not actually be the right answer but no one at the table questioned it. More testing required. More card draw is likely needed, is what I took from all my games.
