------Breaking symmetry on Heartless Hidetsugu------


Pariah's Shield or General's Regalia + Brash Taunter Stuffy Doll Ill-Tempered Loner   or Solphim, Mayhem Dominus w/ indestructible counter, allows us to fully redirect our portion of the Hidetsugu damage to another Player or even planeswalker or creature with Ill-Tempered Loner  .

Giving Heartless Hidetsugu Lifelink by using Witch's Clinic or by equipping Basilisk Collar Loxodon Warhammer Resurrection Orb or Shadowspear negates our incoming damage, and gains us half of our opponents total life. Combine with a pariah combo we also gain half our life total again.

Doubling damage with Heartless Hidetsugu kills everyone at even life, everyone at odd life is brought to 1. Solphim, Mayhem Dominus and Fiendish Duo are asymmetric out of the box. Using Gratuitous Violence Insult / Injury Overblaze we need to either use one of the above methods of breaking symmetry here, maintain an odd life total, or employ Fortune Thief Platinum Angel or Platinum Emperion to stave off our own death.

In the same vein as damage doubling, Grafted Exoskeleton will kill any player at above 20 life with poison counters. But since infect deals damage to creatures as -1/-1 counters, Heartless Hidetsugu will kill Brash Taunter Stuffy Doll or a Solphim, Mayhem Dominus with an indestructible counter on it, if the damage is redirected to one of them.

Hidetsugu's Second Rite correlates nicely with two uses of Heartless Hidetsugu's ability, but it is mainly there for the flavor. When I win with this it feels like I win the whole night's games.

Also of note: Passing damage through multiple sources with Gratuitous Violence or Insult / Injury active goes exponential, when damage is done to Ill-Tempered Loner  , then having them deal the damage (x2) to a Stuffy Doll or Brash Taunter who deal (x4) it to an opponent. It can be used to magnify damage from our Goblin Sharpshooter, or using Brash Taunter to fight Ill-Tempered Loner  , and it is fairly easy to line up a kill this way from a Blasphemous Act.

For Example:

With Insult / Injury resolved, Blasphemous Act does 26 Damage to both Brash Taunter and Ill-Tempered Loner  . Brash Taunter then deals 52 damage to opponent A, and Ill-Tempered Loner   deals 52 damage to Brash Taunter, who then deals 104 damage to Opponent B.


------Without Heartless Hidetsugu------


Treasure sub-theme:

Inspiring Statuary makes treasure tokens effectively into permanent colorless mana sources, it also cheekily allows you to break symmetry on Howling Mine and to use equipment to help pay for spells.

Goldspan Dragon doubles the single use effectiveness of each treasure token.

Goblin Engineer and Goblin Welder allow us to recur our non token artifacts using treasure tokens.

Goblin sub-theme:

I use a few goblins as key utility creatures, which justifies us dipping into their tribal tutors. Every goblin in the deck can be tutored to hand by Imperial Recruiter and Goblin Matron, or to the field with Moggcatcher.

These tutors can chain to Goblin Engineer to tutor an artifact to our graveyard, which Goblin Engineer or Goblin Welder can recur, potentially immediately if we have haste up.

Between these 4 tutors we can reliably fill in our combo pieces

Enable haste with Goblin Motivator, Goro-Goro, Disciple of Ryusei, Swiftfoot Boots or Hammer of Purphoros. Ramp mana with Dockside Extortionist or any mana rock. Get Infect with Grafted Exoskeleton or Lifelink from Basilisk Collar Loxodon Warhammer Resurrection Orb or Shadowspear. (tutoring up Shadowspear can also allow us to deal with hexproof and indestructible creatures) or find creatures Brash Taunter, Goblin Sharpshooter, Platinum Angel, Platinum Emperion, or Stuffy Doll to help stabilize the board, or combo off.

I'm using 3 dragons as curve topping power cards, but not supporting them as a tribe currently.
