A Queen Marchesa EDH

Heavy Lies The Crown

Marchesa, the Black Rose was the second commander deck that I ever made. So it was no real surprise when Conspiracy take the crown came out that I needed to have Queen Marchesa. Originally the deck was built for 1V1 commander but as time moved on (and our play group kept growing) our 1V1 games fell to the wayside. Eventually the deck was scraped and that was that. Recently however I found that I wanted to build a more political deck for larger games. So once more I turned to my beloved Queen to lead me to victory by doing what she dos best manipulate, assassinate, and rule with an iron fist.

Forger of the Crown:

One of the main goals of this list is to use the utility of Sunforger to generate value while we are striking deals and manipulating the table. Be it ensuring our safety or removing key threats Sunforger is an incredibly powerful tool that will lead to us dominating our foes.

Hammer of Nazahn

Bearers of the Hammer: In order to abuse Sunforger first we do have to get it. Several cards in this list ensure we are always worthy of its might.

Aikido: There are many times we wish to avoid conflict wanting nothing more than to stay passive in a conflict. However if provoked we can be extremely deadly using our foes own strengths against them.

Smite the Wicked: On occasion a threat must be neutralized no matter the cost.

The Game

It is important to note what tools we have at our disposal and who the players of the Game are. Not the card game before us our interest is in the game of manipulation and subterfuge. Politics.

Tools of the trade: Often times a little incentive is needed to help seal a deal.

Insurance : Sometimes deals do not always work out in our favor. Its a good thing we thought ahead and prepared ourselves for just such an outcome.

Taxation: As they say "no good deed go's unpunished."

These are the cards that well... win us the game!

  • Gisela, Blade of Goldnight: Watch as our opponents smite each other while also providing us with half damage.

  • Assemble the Legion: Keep yourself out of harms way and while your opponents are striking deals with you they wont realize how much of a threat your board has become before its to late.

  • Elspeth, Sun's Champion: Create an army and control the board. Elspeths Emblem will close out the game in a flash.

Playing this deck has been an interesting experience. Just remember that when playing a large portion of our power is based off of playing politics at the table. You want to make deals with people, you want to lie to them, most importantly you want to convince them that you are not a threat but an ally. If this sounds like fun to you then I hope you enjoy. As always feed back is welcome. Happy Draws!
