Commander / EDH* Aggro Mono-Red Tokens

The best God in all of Theros: Purphoros, God of the Forge !

The biggest problem with mono-red and EDH is that an aggro strategy usually just doesn't work. The life totals are too high and there are too many opponents to deal with. That's where Purphoros comes in. He favors an "all-in" strategy and takes care of all opponents instead of targeting a single opponent at a time. He bumps creatures, redirects damage to planeswalkers, and gets around players with shroud and hexproof items such as Leyline of Sanctity .

This deck also shows that red isn't just a "dumb newbie" color. It has multiple synergies, plays politics, control elements, and can deal with just about anything.

This is also a multiplayer focused deck. Never be afraid to throw some chump blockers on the battlefield before Purph hits, because people WILL target you.

All Stars

Panharmonicon : Not only does this double the damage from Purphoros, but it also doubles the tokens triggered from token generating creatures!

Feldon of the Third Path : This deck runs a mild recursion subtheme. Feldon enables the cards dumped into the graveyard to serve another purpose.

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker : He really needs no introduction or explanation.

Theme Cards

The main theme of this deck is token generating creatures. It does not run any tribal (goblin) theme, so there is no limit on what type of token you want to generate.

How to Pilot

You're primary goal is to get Purphoros on the battlefield as soon as possible.

Other colors are well setup to run away with the game very quickly. Try your best to keep your opponents on an even playing field. Do not be afraid to use removal on the first 3-4 turns of the game. Use Spitebellows , Ingot Chewer , and even Rolling Earthquake to keep other players from getting too far ahead.

Explosive endings are the best way to win with this deck. Do not over extend yourself. You will paint a target on your head. Build up your mana and card advantage first. Then explode in one turn for the win.

Do not be afraid to spend your mana on Purphoros' second ability, and swing for the fences. Every bit of damage helps. Be aware of all players' board state, to make sure you don't end up dying to a simple attack on your turn.

Opening Hand

The ideal hand has 3 lands, 1 Theme, 1 Draw, 1 Ramp, and one other card (removal/enabler/enhancer). Don't keep your hand just because you have 2 lands and a Sol Ring . Ramp is good, but gas is better.

When You're Behind

If you're behind, focus your efforts on balancing the board. Don't try to bring yourself up. Instead, focus on bringing your opponents down to your level. Then you can pull ahead.

Combos / Synergies

Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker + Zealous Conscripts : Sometimes the game has to end.

Grinning Ignus + Empty the Warrens : Cast the Ignus multiple times with it's ability, then get the storm trigger through the Warrens.

Feldon of the Third Path + Magus of the Wheel : Refill your hand every turn.
