Historic Brawl: Garna and Judith

Standard Brawl* BR (Rakdos)

Himi

Sideboard

Historic Brawl aggro deck. I built this initially to test the waters in Brawl for a friend who was playing this midrange GB Glissa deck and found that aggro was definitely something that could work and/or be engaging while failing to clear the finish line.

I spent some time deliberating if Judith, the Scourge Diva should be the commander for this deck for a few reasons but ultimately chose to continue with Garna because she gives us more card draw during trades in combat or if your non-blocking creatures are being outscaled. Unsurprisingly, a lot of these 1-2 drops that can return from the grave yard synergize well with each other for bringing themselves back and continuing to maintain relevancy with the card draw or direct damage their deaths can provide.

Fortunately we can still include Judith in the 99 and you're free to swap them in an out as commander as you choose. Judith makes this deck come in faster and harder out the gates. The extra power buff to other creatures and the ability to aim the damage from dying creatures provides good pressure and flexibility but the most compelling reason to have Judith as commander is the fact that she is a 3 drop. Coming in on curve and accelerating the pressure of your 1-2 drops and making them trade up even harder is more than enough to strongly consider having her at the helm rather than Garna but I think also makes the deck way more vulnerable to combat blow outs and board wipes.

Playing this deck: Its an aggro deck. Play your on drops, turn sideways, draw cards on trades or while using some tricks in combat. Garna has lots of pressure by utilizing these extra expendable creatures to feed your other sac outlets. It's pivotal to make sure you have a hand that has early plays to ensure that you get their life total low enough that your creatures dying with Garna in play can potentially kill them. If they get low the can't remove your creatures very safely.

Have fun!
