Creating a midrange punisher deck for Harsh Mentor. Fun? Yes. Competitive? Maybe not.I can see a spot or two for the upcoming Neheb, the Eternal or Wildfire Eternal and Refuse / Cooperate, time will tell.

Punisher deck with:

• Low mana-curve
• A mixture of sources dealing player damage while still maintaining board presence and synergy
• Opponent can't swing big
• Card-draw & ramp

Synergy

Chandra's Spitfire & Bloodchief Ascension synergise with just about everything in this deck. They get fueled while also providing more depth to choice cards like Sin Prodder and Mogis, God of Slaughter since taking a hit also pumps Spitfire, discarding fuels Grim Lavamancer and sacking makes opponent take a hit from Bloodchief Ascension.

There is also potential for situational bursts of damage, for example Bloodchief Ascension makes the differance between Collective Defiance being a bomb or a cantrip. I also left out the Mindcrank and Bloodchief Ascension since that is...not fun.

Why this card?

Creatures

• Grim Lavamancer - Staple One Drop, safer than Sleeper Agent. I can't afford Vexing Devil
• Harsh Mentor - Easy to remove but hits most decks pretty well all game. Tag-teams with sideboard Ash Zealot against certain decks
• Scab-Clan Berserker - Doesn't sport a mustache & cape like Kambal, Consul of Allocation but she has the balls to deal damage and combo with the rest of this deck
• Mogis, God of Slaughter - Provides much needed removal in this otherwise slow deck. Fuels a whole bunch of stuff
• Sin Prodder - Menace, card draw, fuels Grim Lavamancer and Chandra's Spitfire
• Chandra's Spitfire - One to many 3-drops, plenty potential. Similiar role to Boros Reckoner

Non-creatures

• Boros Charm - The spots for instants and sorceries are few, options is therefore king. Also protects our guys, something Lightning Bolt , Terminate or Path to Exile does not do. Replace with Browbeat or similiar if needed.
• Collective Defiance - More options, removal. Saves us from manaflood or the opposite. Bomb if opponent discards hand while Bloodchief Ascension is active
• Crackling Doom - Conquer
• Visions of Brutality - Rule (clears a path for Scab-Clan Berserker )
• Chandra, Torch of Defiance - More options

Side-board

• Ash Zealot against reanimate decks or flashback and similar (looking at you Snapcaster Mage & Torrential Gearhulk )
• Lightning Greaves Mentors usually get a lot of hate
• Contaminated Ground & Blood Moon extra landhate
• Dreadbore & Lightning Bolt & Rakdos Charm & Kolaghan's Command for better removal when required
• Eidolon of the Great Revel & Manabarbs will ramp the speed of this deck x10 if you can survive it yourself
• Rakdos, Lord of Riots Great addition when Mogis doesn't perform
• Sign in Blood & Faithless Looting &Wheel of Fate Card draw in different flavors
• Skullcrack & Tainted Remedy & Havoc Festival against lifegain
• Refuse / Cooperate against ramp
