(v2.1, Build 007)
This will be the final version of the deck for some time. I am pretty sure I have hammered out all of the kinks and made it as strong as it can be for the Mid-Range game.
Deck has tested VERY well. Preformed strongly at FNM and Gamedays. minor final tweaking may happen before this weeks FNM, but this should be pretty well what I will be running come the PTQ on the 1st. Heres to hoping this badboy has a top finish!
It can beat Abzan Mid-Range, It can out race Jeskai Tempo, it can stop Jeskai Combo, it wrecks Temur Monsters. Its biggest issue at the moment is super Aggro builds. Which really I cant do much from without pulling from the Mid-Range aspect of the deck. I am thinking the Meta will consist of more Mid-Range/Control builds then Aggro, and if thats the case I should be a solid candidate for top 8 come PTQ time!
Mardu Mid-Range with the ability to be very Agrro.
Turns 1/2 get your mana in place by dropping correct dual lands, Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth and/or cracking Bloodstained Mire and drop the 1 and 2 drops Bloodsoaked Champion / Thoughtseize followed by burn or more board presence on turn 2.
Turn 3 depending on the scenario would either play Brimaz, King of Oreskos or Goblin Rabblemaster and swing to start a token base. If needed Crackling Doom but I would be more inclined to save this for a serious threat come turns 4/5/6 such as a
Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
Turn 4 you want to hit Butcher of the Horde sack tokens to give him Haste and Lifelink as well as Vigilance if able, and start swinging. Rinse and repeat. dropping Sorin, Solemn Visitor is nice to see turn 4 with a solid board presence as well. No complaints there.
After this its all burn/control and keeping swinging with Goblin Rabblemaster Brimaz, King of Oreskos and Butcher of the Horde any of these big players on board and the game typically ends quickly unless they can draw multiple answers.
Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
after turn 5 is pretty well a deal sealer.
Stoke the Flames
and Crackling Doom for removal as well as Lightning Strike and Magma Jet for burn and scry.
Thoughtseize and Banishing Light for control.
Put this all in a shell and you get Mardu Mayhem !
Key Players -
Bloodsoaked Champion - Amazing 1drop, amazing. 2/1 that can attack and return to the field even if killed/sac'd every turn. Renewable Butcher Chow if you have the mana available, a single Champion can fuel the butcher every turn for Vigilance and Lifelink.
Brimaz, King of Oreskos Cat Soldiers for days! best white 3drop on the market aside from maybe Banishing Light
Butcher of the Horde - Game Ender. Plain and Simple. Feed him tokens to give him Haste/Lifelink/Vigilance. FEED THE BUTCHER there is no reason not to with the tokens this deck produces or Bloodsoaked Champion available.
Goblin Rablemaster
all get tokens hitting the field quickly and and followed by a quick Butcher of the Horde can result in GG very fast.
Sorin, Solemn Visitor I cannot say enough good things about Sorin, this guy just rounds out any deck using W/B his +1 is AMAZING as it carries over to your opponents turn. his -2 can help with Air Control and his Ultimate clears the board for you within a matter of a few turns. TOOO GOOD.
Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker
Great Planeswalker, simple as that. +1 for a 4/4 flyer, -3 to stoke a creature and his Ultimate allows you to keep up with Dig Through Time decks so you do not get buried by card advantage. Paired with Sorin, these 2 end games.
Please playtest to get the full feel of the deck!
Thanks and have fun!
