Commander / EDH Budget Combo UR (Izzet)

Sideboard

I was searching for a new commander deck to try out, and I thought Jhoira of the Ghitu was pretty cool. So I made her my commander and started crafting.

Rift Elemental, Shivan Sand-Mage , Timebender, Paradox Haze, Clockspinning, Fury Charm, and Timecrafting are all in this deck to help remove time counters and get big creatures and spells onto the battlefield sooner.

Kozilek, the Great Distortion, Dragon Mage, Well of Ideas, Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar and Windfall are here to search through your deck for your best cards.

Expensive enchantments like Mind's Dilation and Vicious Shadows are amazing once you get them out of the suspended state. I would also suggest Omniscience, but it is a little out of my price range.

I had Decree of Annihilation on my main board, but I swapped it out for Disaster Radius . Decree of Annihilation just wasn't working how I wanted it to, while Disaster Radius usually deals 6-10 damage to each creature your opponents have.

Ral Zarek and Ugin, the Spirit Dragon are there to help support your deck, with Zarek untap your stuff, and Ugin lightning striking your opponents. Since Ugin, the Spirit Dragon is on the expensive side, I usually end up suspending him.

Sorceries like Alpha Brawl , Denying Wind , and Volcanic Vision help eliminate threats from your opponents. Many of the people in my playgroup really hate it when I play Denying Wind though, so it does result in some hate from your opponents. Might be smart to substitute it for some other card, but I haven't found a suitable one yet.

Day's Undoing, Learn from the Past , and Elixir of Immortality help to shuffle DMK's (cards discarded, milled, or killed) back into your library, which can be extremely useful.

Expropriate and Temporal Trespass are amazing for removing time counters, attacking multiple times with big creatures, and obviously, extra turns are amazing.

Tamiyo's Journal , Bident of Thassa, and Blue Sun's Zenith help with card advantage. Since you can cast basically anything for 2 mana, having a huge hand is always beneficial.

One of my favorite basically-a-win-con is having a Deceiver of Form on the battlefield with a Mindwrack Liege on top of library. It's rare I know, but having each creature give each other creature you control +2/+2 is amazing.

Skyline Despot and Chancellor of the Forge give you some tokens for defense or for attacking. The only problem with these is Leyline of Singularity is in the deck, which of course kills all but one of the tokens.

Wincons:

Volcanic Vision any of the 8-drop and up spells (Temporal Trespass, Expropriate, Alpha Brawl , Clone Legion, etc.) and then swing for lethal.

Deadeye Navigator + Dualcaster Mage = UNLIMITED POWER, expecially when copying a Temporal Trespass and Expropriate. Either of these two are my favorite combos of all time, since you get an extra turn for each 2 mana you have.

Archetype of Imagination and an army of creatures basically makes everything unblockable.

Deadeye Navigator + (Molten Primordial, Chancellor of the Forge, any other ETB effect) for a ton of different things

Decree of Annihilation with a bunch of stuff suspended gives you a huge leg up.

Paradox Haze + Tamiyo's Journal gives you a bunch of clues fairly quickly for card draw or tutoring. Since Deadeye Navigator is amazing with most of the cards in this deck, I usually tutor for this.

Hope you like my deck! Please leave suggestions or comments below.

Suggestions:

I was looking for some card to take out to add in Soothsaying . I feel like it could bring a lot to the deck by helping me find the right cards for certain situations.

Does Eternal Dominion fit into this deck? I was just thinking that it would be hilarious to play Eternal Dominion and Deadeye Navigator + Dualcaster Mage several times. Beginning of each turn just search your opponents' libraries for whatever cards you want. ;)

A couple other cards I like that I haven't out into this deck yet are Keranos, God of Storms, and Saheeli Rai. They are both pretty cool, and Keranos could serve as an alternate commander.

Pros:

I love this deck, so here is what I like about it.

  1. Fun to play (for me at least)

  2. Assuming I don't play a lot of the hate cards, ie Decree of Annihilation, other players can have fun playing against this deck as well.

  3. Possibility of searching through deck for cards to win (Tomorrow, Azami's Familiar + card draw, Tamiyo's Journal , Library of Leng).

  4. Potential of 3 million goblins! I did this in one game, so not saying it will always happen. But how it worked was a Chancellor of the Forge + Deadeye Navigator 8 times in one turn, got me up to 6000 goblins with haste. One of my opponents prevented combat damage to him, and after I did it again I got up over 3,000,000. It was pretty sweet.

  5. Ability to play high mana cost spells early in the game.

Cons:

  1. As much as I love her, Jhoira of the Ghitu is hard countered by Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir or Eon Hub. Like, hard hard countered.

  2. Jhoira of the Ghitu loses relevance as you get further in the game.

  3. Not drawing cards to remove time counters/drawing too many of them can make the deck useless.

  4. Suspending cards can make you a big target. People generally don't like you if you have a Mind's Dilation in suspend.

  5. It takes forever to get your suspended cards out. 4 turns may not seem like the longest time, but in a commander game it is.
