Looter il-Kor is not only for pinging early game, but also for looting my hand into the graveyard for snappy and GDD.
Abbot of Keral Keep was my choice over Grim Lavamancer as late game utility as part of the deck's purpose is to utilize the graveyard. Late game, especially after I've seen both of my GDD's, this guy is a bomb, sometimes rattling off a combo Like Abott of Keral Keep + Snapcaster Mage + Lightning Bolt, or Abott of keral keep + Ghostly Flicker + Lightning Bolt.
Blood Moon Is a fun card to add into this deck. it helps versus tron and Eldrazi, which are the hardest matchups for us. The landbase is made so that a turn 3 Moon is favorable.
Vedilion Clique is the deck's beater and game breaker. Game 1 against our trouble matchups we can take away their Newlamog or Karn. It also can eat bolts, save us out of nowhere, and adhere some damage in the face.
Izzet Charm is another valuable card, as it can counter opposing counterspells and Abrupt Decay, clear out Delver and Signal Pest, or Loot.
Kolaghan's Command is a solid bonus, getting my Snappies and GDD back, killing little guys, wrecking affinity and
Exploration Map
, or turning into a canslip (A card that also makes the opponents discard).
Inquisition of Kozilek and Thoughtseize are important versus tron and Mono-Black Newdrazi, as they remove their maps, wincons, and the graveyard hate newdrazi packs.
When I drop that Dark Dweller I can't help but hum this.
Matchups
Mono Newdrazi
Rating: Severe
This deck packs maindeck gravehate. It is extremly good against us g1. In order to combat this, hold removal and counters up, then try to get out Isochron Scepter lock out. You can't let them get Newmalog into their hand, so hand control is necessary. Try and keep their hate off the field with Kolaghan's Command and counterspells. Only if we can find the first Blood Moon do we have a chance.
Post Sideboard: Even to Good
Against Newdrazi, the main things to bring in are the 3 Blood Moon and the Crumble to Dust. My mana base and card choice was crafted to make a turn 3 Blood Moon a safe bet to have all of the colors. This nerfs their Eyes and Temples, but their Blight Herder can come down turn 5 anyways, and their Oblivion Sower on turn 6, so Slaughter Games and Roast still have to come in.
The quickness of this deck in being able to t3 stick a Karn or a Wurmcoil Engine is hard. Inquisition of Kozilek is lackluster in this matchup, but my removal is even better. Lightning Bolt becomes for picking off Wurm Tokens or keeping Karn down. Lots of our spells are lackluster. But the singleton Moon can help us hold them off.
Post-Sideboard: Good
Bringing in Blood Moon and Crumble to Dust cripple their Tron, and Slaughter Games takes out their Engines and Karn. Keranos is extremely helpful in this matchup, helping us shoot their stuff down until we can stick some land hate.
Same problem as with tron, but different principle. Land hate is the main factor, as is taking out their artifacts. Looter il-Kor becomes worse in this matchup than in the others, as Mind Slaver and Ugin work against him. Moon, as always, helps game 1.
Post Sideboard: Good
Land hate is the answer to my 3 problem decks, along with Slaughter Games on their ugin. Shatterstorm can deal with their slaver, Platinum Angel and other artifacts.
