Plan J

J is for jank, and this is an extremely janky combo deck. The plan is to play 3x Hostage Taker in a row. This is very difficult to achieve so we have Forerunner of the Coalition to put Hostage Taker on top of our library and Mirror Image to be copies 5-7 of Hostage Taker . We also have Siren Stormtamer , Dive Down , and Lookout's Dispersal for protection.

But how does this help us win? We take our first Hostage Taker hostage using our second Hostage Taker , then we take our second Hostage Taker hostage using our third Hostage Taker . When Hostage Taker number two leaves the battlefield, Hostage Taker number one returns to the battlefield and takes Hostage Taker number three hostage! When that happens, Hostage Taker number two returns to the battlefield and so on and so forth... The end result is an infinite number of "Enter the Battlefield" triggers. Specifically, it's an infinite number of Pirate "Enter the Battlefield" triggers. This is why we are playing 4x Forerunner of the Coalition - it is not only our tutor, but also our win condition! Forerunner of the Coalition deals 1 damage to each opponent whenever a pirate enters the battlefield. Fringe Benefit: This damage gets around the protection from Shalai, Voice of Plenty giving the opponent hexproof because the damage is not targeted.

So that is plan J for Infinite Pirates.

Plan B

Plan B is to play a mono-blue-esque game with small evasive creatures, Curious Obsession , protection in the form of Dive Down and Lookout's Dispersal , and use Hostage Taker as a tempo / pseudo removal piece instead of a combo piece. We also have Kitesail Freebooter to disrupt our opponent's plan, Warkite Marauder to force through our attackers, and Ambush Pirate ( Dire Fleet Poisoner ) for combat shenanigans and surprise blockers.

Plan C

Play Forerunner of the Coalition and put another one on top of the library. Then do it again, and again. When you have 3x or 4x Forerunners on the battlefield, kill the opponent with incidental damage every time you play a pirate!
