Innistrad Limited Simulation Cube 6-3-2-1

Limited

ljkp

Basic land (200)

Common (606)

Rare (104)

Uncommon (183)

Innistrad limited imitation cube to mimic the experience of playing Innistrad draft or sealed with fresh booster packs. I don't count how foils affect the boosters, and of course there can never be more than one of each mythic, two of each rares etc, so this will not be completely like a real limited Innistrad game, but it's good enough substitute. Making it less real is also small alterations that I make to the cube to make it even more fun to play.

Pack distribution:

9 commons, 3 uncommons, 1 rare or mythic rare and 1 double faced card (which can be anything from a common to a mythic rare) = 14 cards per pack since basic land/checklist card is cut. (Basic lands are listed here because they will be included in the cube.)

After play commons are put into one pile, uncommons are put into one pile, rares and mythics are put into one pile and DFCs are put into one pile. Before starting to play, shuffle those piles, and make boosters of aforementioned distribution. I don't know if I should mind balancing the colours for each booster to make certain that every booster has at least one card of each colour, but I'll think about that.

To make certain that rares and the mythic rare do not dominate the DFC slot, I chose to downgrade the number of rare DFCs to 1 in this cube. This way we'll see more commons and uncommons in that slot. 9,5 % of DFCs will still be either rare or mythic rare, and not 16,2 % like they would be had I not made the adjustment.

Making alterations

I am thinking of making small alterations to the cube, so that it will not be a perfect copy of the set. I will cut cards that do next to nothing in limited environment, and substitute too weak cards with cards that preferably fit the flavour. I might cut some too powerful cards and balance the numbers of cards based on their powerlevel too, but I am not certain if I will.

For cards that I don't think I can afford I will be using proxies. I really want to see that Snapcaster Mage in some games, and I am not made out of money, so I choose to proxy up.

One thing I am also going to think about is mana fixing. The set doesn't have great mana fixing and I have yet to decide if I want to make a 15th slot for solely lands. To make that decision, I think I have to playtest the cube first. (Before that comes actually getting all the cards, sigh.)

Removed cards:

Stony Silence - Not good in limited format

Olivia Voldaren - Way too powerful in limited, wins games alone

Why Innistrad?

I only started playing limited with M15, and never got to experience Innistrad limited really (I've drafted ISD twice so far, and I loved it). Now that the prices of booster packs are sky-rocketing, and I really want to play Innistrad, I think that cube is a great way to experience it. I love the flavour and the mechanics of the set, and even if I can't give a very educated opinion about the set, based on my few experiences and the general opinion, Innistradx3 might be the best draft format ever. If I make a set cube, Innistrad is the most natural option.
