The Deck

Ever noticed a strange phenomenon that every time there's a morph in play, it's almost always Willbender? This is a pretty stock-list Kadena, Slinking Sorcerer that wants to deploy as many morphs as possible to gain a superior card and board advantage over everyone. Instead of focusing on combat as a finisher, I want to focus more on the control/combo aspect as I feel that going the combat route will weaken the deck's main strength significantly. This deck has proven to have the guns and resiliency to hang out in an optimized pod due to the difficulty in morph interaction and the variety of answers each morph can pack.

Notable Exclusions

  • Cloudstone Curio/Equilibrium: They used to be in my deck but after playtesting several games it seems like having those cards either do nothing on the board or force me into wanting to overextend to gain more value from Kadena. They are significantly worse if Kadena is not in play as it hinges on Kadena's cost reduction ability to be effective. I think that Crystal Shard/Temur Sabertooth/Vesuvan Shapeshifter/Echo Tracer/Icefeather Aven/Mystic Confluence/Cryptic Command does a better job of giving me full control when to bounce/reuse my morphs while advancing my control/combo gameplan.

  • Words of Wind: Another situational card that can even benefit my opponents. I often would rather draw cards then to bounce a morph back to my hand.

  • Ezuri, Claw of Progress: This card fits better in a more aggro morph shell.

  • Vedalken Orrery: The deck runs a redundant amount of cards that provides instant speed effects and I find that this card is just not good enough to make the cut from testing. Each card with a similar effect needs to be unique enough so that playing another one would still provide some value.

  • Riptide Entrancer (and other morphs with combat damage triggers): This deck focuses on the control aspect of the morphs as I feel like it is the more superior theme to build around. Combat-centric morphs require an entirely different build altogether.
