American Control is not dead!
I took the Snapcaster Mage and Venser, the Sojourner idea and mashed it with Chandra, the Firebrand's spell-copying capabilities.
Here's the low down:
Venser, the Sojourner does his thing with Snapcaster Mage and Oblivion Ring.
Chandra, the Firebrand copies Tezzeret's Gambit and Volt Charge to proliferate the crap out of my walkers.
Snapcaster Mage keeps my card draw alive and brings back my proliferation from the graveyard.
Inferno Titan for lightning bolt-like power and likes Venser's bouncing ability.
Frost Titan taps down lands, creatures, whatever, four a turn with Venser's help.
Treasure Mage searches out Wurmcoil Engine and Contagion Engine.
Ponder and Divination give me the draw power I need early to find the cards I want.
Wurmcoil Engine does work by keeping my health up, and is real fun to give pseudo-vigilance to with Venser!
Phyrexian Metamorph gets rid of annoying legendaries and copys major threats on my board (including my wurmcoil or titans)!
Contagion Engine is my one-sided board wiper and helps my proliferation engine.
Sphere of the Suns is my bounceable mana fixer.
Oblivion Ring removes annoying permanents...
Day of Judgment keeps the board clear turn 3 or 4 and after.
Cerebral Eruption is a game-changer, plain and simple. It is a potential one-sided board wiper against the right deck and is low-risk, high-reward against tempo. It WILL do damage when it is cast unless it hits a land, in which I know they aren't going to draw a threat next turn and I get to cast it again. Its value is very underrated.
Sideboard Tech (under construction):
Whipflare replaces Cerebral Eruption against quick swarm decks that I need a reliable weenie wipe for.
Consecrated Sphinx comes in for Frost Titan against control where a flying threat with card advantage is invaluable.
Dissipate makes its way in when there for big threats later in the game or early-game threats that can cause issues like Hellrider.
Thopter Assembly helps me last through games of attrition against tempo or control deck. Plus it gives my Treasure Mage another thing to tutor up.
Mondronen Shaman is a good card to sub in against spell-based decks like RDW and burn decks.
Nihil Spellbomb works its way in against zombies and other graveyard-loving decks like mine =D.
Steel Hellkite is a good game two switchout for Contagion Engine against aggro decks and tokens.
Timely Reinforcements subs in for Oblivion Ring against faster decks like RDW and tokens.
Check it out, playtest, comment and +1!
Thanks for looking!
Sidenote: Cerebral Eruption is VERY hit or miss but when it lands, it changes the entire scope of the game... It is usually a weenie-wiper with little damage to boot but when paired with Chandra, the Firebrand's -2, hitting anything cmc 3 or higher is devastating. It sing;e-handedly won me a game against UB Zombies by hitting Army of the Damned with chandra's -2. 16 damage straight to the face!
