Report on the most recent Vorthos attempt at capturing Niv-Mizzets greatness:
Abstract: This is an ongoing experiment. The most indicated books have been selected to fill each role in order to project the essence of our great teacher, Niv-Mizzet.
Introduction: Capturing the essence and glory of our great leader has been a task many of us have attempted several times, but to always get lost among a myriad of spells and artifacts from other worlds which have caused his Dragoliness great pain reflected as boredom.
However, with the combined efforts of 3 Izzet Chronarchs who do not want to disclose their names, an experiment like no other has been attempted and what we think is the essence of our great Dracogenius has been encapsulated in a machine integrating a small library with exactly 100 books. For some reason, the books keep changing place every time we close it, but nevertheless, by delving into this machine, you will find true enlightenment and soar the skies of knowledge as our great leader does every morning.
Experimental Setup:
Personal Relationships:The first step was to include in the DECK all the essences of the people that deal with his Dragoliness daily, starting by our great teacher, the Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius himself. Luckily or unluckily, the person in charge of capturing the essence of his breath was gifted with time-travelling abilities and somehow got a glimpse of some of the leaders past glorious days, when he went by the name of Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind.
Next came his most proud creations, the Djinn Illuminatus, capable of copying any spell cast by its master and Gelectrode, the re-chargeable Weird that is still used to power up our machines and more importantly, Niv-Mizzets chair! The most recent creation has been Melek, Izzet Paragon. It symbolises everything this guild has worked for and more. A self-conscious Weird that is now Niv-Mizzets most renowned advisor. After Jace Beleren, of course, but Jace is a personal friend of his Dragesty.
We also included the three royal aides, the original Izzet Chronarch, who is the wisest human in the halls of Nivix; the head of the Nivix Guildmages, both powerful and ingenious; and finally the Mercurial Chemister, a brilliant young genius. The two new research students working directly under Niv-Mizzet are Goblin Electromancer and Goblin Flectomancer, the latter having been recently replaced as short circuits kept happening all the time. We also did not forget Niv-Mizzets royal pet, the Hypersonic Dragon.
Personal Gadjets and spaces:
Niv-Mizzets own hobby is to create riddles and store them within Izzet Cluestones so one had to be included. The Izzet Keyrune was a toy the Izzet Chronarch built for our leader a long time ago and its capabilities for thought can be quite surprising at times! Using a Mizzium Transreliquat we managed to get a replica of Niv-Mizzets own Izzet Signet when he was distracted with the opening of our plane. Its compatibility with Darksteel Ingot has yet to be investigated.
A rock of the leaders own house, Nivix, Aerie of the Firemind had to be included as well, as well as its brilliant Steam Vents. Round the back there is an exit to the other Guildleaders halls, but we just call it the Transguild Promenade.
Personal Experiments:
We could not have forgotten Invoke the Firemind, our most recent attempt at copying Niv-Mizzets grace. It is now but a recipe of the 100 books we have written. Some of our self-replicating spells have not been forgotten, Vacuumelt and Gigadrowse making their appearance. Quickening spells was also an experiment that proved to be successfull so we included the book as well.
Next come more advanced spells, such as the Prophetic Bolt. There are areas we have not yet touched and one of them is predicting the future as knowing what will happen takes away the fun of everything. Luckily, our plane-travelling friend Ral Zarek has taught us how to do just that (the b**), so we are including it as his Dragoliness seemed quite fond of it.
Our extended experiments on earthquakes came in the form of Street Spasm and Mizzium Mortars. Teleporting creatures back into the aether has also been studied, Cyclonic Rift as a temporary solution and Essence Backlash and Counterflux, which seem to have more permanent effects. We can also temporarily transform living creatures into Weirds which has been so far the only experiment that has graced us with a rain of laughter from our leader, so Turn / Burn has been included.
Other odd-artifacts and spells found but not forgotten:
Include a Sphinx-Bone Wand whose reaction with spells has proven to be most interesting. A Veilstone Amulet has incredible magical reversal abilities. In fact, it has been used to hold some strange creatures Ral has brought from other worlds. A Runechanter's Pike is also included and its sharpness increases as spells are used around it, and two stones: a Fellwar Stone that gives off different colours depending on what sort of people are around you and an Nevinyrral's Disk that is said to destroy the plane. In order to acquire this item, we had to capture a Meletis Charlatan as he seemed to not want to sell his wares for a reasonable price.
Included in the creatures captured are a pair of demons that seem very fond of Magic in general. They tend to be called the Charmbreaker Devils. Two chimeras from a whole new world, by the names of Prescient Chimera whose fondness of revealing the future seems intriguing and a Spellheart Chimera whose power to feed on magic is utmost interesting. A weird Beast from another plane we name the Mischievous Quanar is a being made of pure magic and once in a while seems to disappear only to reappear when Magic is abound. We are currently storing it within a Mnemonic Wall. He shares his cage with a Nucklavee. Moreover, we have a special guest from another plane that has been released quite some time ago. Hes a Merfolk and goes by the name of Talrand, Sky Summoner. Using parallel Magic he is able to summon Drakes from the aether! Talking of honourable guests in our halls, we have Arcanis the Omnipotent, he is untouchable but has a brilliant mind. Elite Arcanist is his most devoted follower and Serendib Sorceror a Wizard cursed to use only a single spell.
It would have been for nought if it wasnt for Arcane Melee, with which Jace Beleren managed to steal part of the Essence of Chandra, the Firebrand, which is now being used to fuel even more experiments.
The other books - Sorceries: Now there are some books that have been added because they are also present in the Dracogenius personal library. Namely: Call the Skybreaker an invocation spell that creates giant Elemental creatures out of thin air, Fanning the Flames, a spell that explains how to create an unlimited flame. Lava Axe is self-explanatory and it is from the time his Dragoliness was learning how to shape his fire, same as Punishing Fire, Wild Ricochet and Shattering Pulse. Mystic Retrieval was included just in case some books got spoiled for some unknown reason. There is something that has been troubling our leader as of late. How with 5 sources of mana you are capable of dealing an amount of damage such as Shivan Meteor. This book is included for further study. Spelltwine is an old spell that when summoned is not only able to repeat something you have done before but do something random as well! For free! It was a must to include in the library.
Instants: Blue Sun's Zenith... if only our Sun were blue, we wouldnt have the need to add a tome reminding us about it. Fling is something that happens quite often when his Dragoliness gets annoyed. Ghostly Flicker is a new addition and seems to refresh the mind of many being. Pongify was a mistake made when we managed to planeshift to another dimension. Spell Crumple seems to get rid of things for a long time, and Think Twice and Whispers of the Muse are two of the greatest books about other planes and were included as knowledge of other planes is essential to capture the essence of an Elder Dragon.
Great untried experiments:
Lava Axe - Yes this is the deal; to blast someones face with a Lava Axe copied in as many ways as possible. There is no cooler way to win than this! Looking at it again, there are many burn spells in the deck, if you can copy them a couple of times that should also do the trick!
Spellheart Chimera or Charmbreaker Devils equipped with Runechanter's Pike + Fling = !!
Conclusion:
As mentioned before, this is an on-going experiment and its reagents may be swapped at any time. So far the experiment has been a success as fun has been achieved at least 5 times (out of 5!).
Books worth completing: Past in Flames, Urza's Rage, Ral Zarek, Eyes of the Watcher, Epic Experiment, Memory Lapse, Archaeomancer.
Acknowledgements: We have named the book Developing an Extremely Conscious Knuckle, in honour of one of the test Goblins that went by the name of Knuckle and was indeed extremely conscious to the point of explosion. Literally. We shall then name our Book the DECK.
