Izzet Really Control Without White?

Standard Burn Competitive Control Counters UR (Izzet)

TheAshenKnight

Sideboard

Maybeboard

A control deck utilizing the many burn spells that red has, and the counter spells of blue, combining to make a control deck.

I originally built this deck as a challenge to myself, as when I first started playing Magic, I thought Izzet could never be any good, since it was based on spells rather than creatures. Over time, I began to love Izzet, as well as the deck, and it morphed into what it is now. To me, it acts as a counterpoint to the current meta in Standard, filled with Azorius Control and Mono Black Devotion. I wanted something, not only cheaper, but different that still worked well, and I've been putting tons of time testing and tweaking this deck to help it fit that.

Sideboarding Plans:

Mono-Black Devotion

-3 Anger of the Gods +1 Pithing Needle +2 Turn / Burn

Mono-Blue Devotion

+1 Anger of the Gods +1 Stormbreath Dragon +1 Boros Reckoner-1 Pithing Needle -2 Turn / Burn

Azorius/Esper Control

Please note that if you believe they have/will board in Blood Baron of Vizkopa, do NOT board out all of your copies of Mizzium Mortars.

+2 Counterflux +2 Pithing Needle +3 Boros Reckoner +3 Negate +1 Ratchet Bomb -3 Anger of the Gods -4 Mizzium Mortars -4 Nullify

Red Green Monsters

+2 Turn / Burn +1 Stormbreath Dragon +2 Ratchet Bomb +3 Boros Reckoner +1 Pithing Needle -3 Anger of the Gods -1 AEtherling -4 Lightning Strike -1 Izzet Charm

If you have any ideas or thoughts on those or tweaks of your own, please post them! I'm grateful for any help.

Updates Add

While the spoilers for Journey Into Nyx haven't been completed yet, I've added in 2 cards. First of all, I've added Temple of Epiphany in place of Izzet Guildgate. Secondly, I've added in Keranos, God of Storms. For now, he's taking the place of Opportunity, but after I get the chance to test him out, this may change.

As to why I've added him, I believe him to be incredibly good in this shell. He's horrendous in an izzet blitz deck or something of the like, as he's simply too slow, but in a control shell like this, I believe he might yet have a chance to shine (Or maybe not. If I test with him and he sucks, he's a goner.), despite what the vast majority of people tend to believe at the moment. Why? Even when not activated, he provides either card advantage, or a Lightning Bolt. Card advantage is HUGE in control, and having an extra source is insane. And it repeats! If that extra source happens to have the ability to burn the opponent to death, or give you a free removal spell, I'm certainly not complaining. Yes, he costs 5, and in this deck he'll never get activated, but I still believe him to be good... so far...

Keranos, please don't disappoint.
