I always wanted to get around to making a good Izzet deck and now seems like a good time. I could use some help.
The primary focus is Nivix Cyclops Who simply loves
Mizzium Skin
and more importantly
Teleportal
. And who else loves those two? Talrand, Sky Summoner and his drakes. Talrand and Melek are more of the end all cards for mid/late game.
To make that happen we have excellent card draw with Izzet Charm,
Think Twice
, and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage.
Board control with Cyclonic Rift,
Magmaquake
, Dissipate,
Searing Spear
,
Chandra, the Firebrand
, and Tamiyo, the Moon Sage
Melek, Izzet Paragon and
Chandra, the Firebrand
make magic happen.
I'm happy with the land count at 24; that with the card draw can keep us with cards to spend mana on as well as let us pay those pesky overload and X costs. With that, I'm debating between Dissipate and Syncopate,
Magmaquake
and Mizzium Mortars (an X of 2 kills off all my drakes), and maybe making an Epic Experiment eventually. Should I have more counters? more wipes? more general damage spells? Is 8 creatures too much? too little? More 1 drops? Less 2 drops? Oh, I don't care much for Nivmagus Elemental because of the exile clause, so you might have to do some serious convincing for him.Artful Dodge maybe? The overload on Mizzium scales into late game with the drakes though.
Ignore the side board and maybe board, it's just there for some ideas I had when I pulled cards. Arguing with myself between the weird storm combo and some fun cards here and there but I've settled for this... direction.
EDIT: Mana flooding might be a problem actually; would need more draw to counter it which would be more trouble then it's worth.
