This deck was a lot of fun to build!

As part of my 32 deck challenge, I had been on the lookout for an interesting Sultai commander and my wish was beyond granted when Jorn, God of Winter   was spoiled. Snow lands and permanents were some of the most memorable cards when I first was introduced to MTG back in the 90's, and I'd been keeping various snow cards I'd acquired here and there aside with the intent of one day making a snow deck. They finally had their place.

I've been on a bit of a deck-building kick lately and while filling in the gaps with some of the pieces on the acquire-board wouldn't be too hellishly expensive, I always try to shop from my own collection or work with what I have first. There was a Golgari Delirium kitchen table deck I built years ago that was finally deconstructed to work a bunch of pieces into this deck, including cards like Grim Flayer (aka Ramsay Bolton) and the like. Between that, the snow cards, the trees...this deck has a rather Winterfell/North of the Wall sort of theme. I really wanted to include Dire Wolves but that card is unfortunately utterly useless in this deck lol. I'd like to include some legendary wolf at some point, Sarulf, Realm Eater or Anara, Wolvid Familiar would be my current best options, perhaps something from one of the Innistrad sets later this year.

When my partner and I play Vizier (which has both a commander and a planeswalker), the Vizier for this deck is Oko, Thief of Crowns but with a self-imposed house rule that his +1 can only be used on my permanents. Oko will make flipping Jorn, God of Winter   back and forth with his artifact side Kaldring, the Rimestaff a bit easier, although I may need to add more ways to sacrifice creatures to ensure he leaves the board.

I like sharing little MTG stories, so that's what this is

During the Eldraine pre-release I pulled a foil Oko and a few weeks later ended up getting an extended art Oko from a FNM prize pack. I traded both of these in (best timing possible) for four fetchlands which I do not regret whatsoever.

Then Oko really started to dominate Standard in an unbelievable way. That season of Broko Oko decks running rampant in Fall 2019, my partner had managed to place in the top 400 in Arena (not using an Oko deck either! His own Fires of Invention wheel deck) but sat the tournament out because of how unpleasant the meta was at the time. He is an extremely talented player and deckbuilder, and it was a hard decision for him sit that out.

So yea, that's why I decided that there would be a house rule errata of sorts to Oko, Thief of Crowns where the +1 can only be used on my permanents. On a last note, while I did not pick up a foil or extended art again, I sought out the French version which don't seem to show up on the US market very often (had to get mine from Canada actually).

Lastly, the Dark Depths is borrowed from my partner for now, I am still testing it for this deck. I highly prefer Marit Lage's Slumber as it is much easier to obtain the Marit Lage token that way, but with some finer tuning, getting the counters off of Dark Depths should be doable without having to use the classic Vampire Hexmage who is not in this deck. The cards I am seeking to add soonest to this deck are Scrying Sheets , Gutless Ghoul , and Winter Orb .
