N.B. Description is still a work in progress :)
May I present to you my Kaalia of the Vast EDH deck, this is my personal work in progress and a super aggressive deck to play, with three main strategies to play tactfully and secure a win!
I really do have a lot of fun playing this deck, and installing fear into my opponents. This deck is sure to get them scrambling for answers and ways to deal with the relentless nature of this deck.
The aim early game is to ramp up mana using low drop artifacts like Commander's Sphere, Fellwar Stone, Marble Diamond, Rakdos Signet and Sol Ring. I am aware there are better artifacts out there for mana ramp purposes but I wanted to keep this deck at a relatively low personal cost so utilised cards I already had. Although Sol Ring is a must in most commander decks.
Even though this deck packs a punch, from a politics stand point you will be recognised a threat early game, well as soon as you start attacking! So with this in mind, please see the following strategies:
PROTECC
We want to protect our favourite creatures or incredible cards that have fallen into our hand and subsequently onto the battlefeild.
Darksteel Plate - A personal fave, indestructible artifact that gives creatures indestructible! The only way to remove would be exile artifact, making this super evasive and a sure way to keep your favourite creature, or Kaalia in play for as long as possible.
Avacyn, Angel of Hope - All permanents gain indestructible, protecting everything! Should I say anymore?
Dawn Charm - A great little mutli use card, giving you adaptability dependant on circumstances. A great asnwer to many problems that arise in EDH.
Amulet of Safekeeping - Mana tax on opponents targeting you with their abilities and wiping token creatures from the board.
ATTACC
Ok now to talk about Kaalia, whenever she attacc you cheat any angel, demon or dragon out with a hast ability attacking along side her. Super aggro and sure to install fear in our opponents.
We have a lot of power and devastating abilities in our creature base to help hammer down opponents life. There are also some high synergy artifacts and some burn spells to help secure the win.
Aurelia, the Warleader - Flying, vigilance and haste. Aggro without the recourse and an extra turn to double down on damage. A sure win con with enough fatties on the board.
Balefire Dragon - Board wipe in a creature for one opponent. One of the scariest dragons to have on the board with devastating consequences for your chosen opponent.
Drakuseth, Maw of Flames - Burn spell in a dragon.
Archfiend of Spite - A great life drain demon with a control element. This will act a a deterrent to opponents from attacking too hard. As they will have to pay with their life.
Strionic Resonator - Copying Kaalia's ability and choosing new targets to help cheat one more creature out in one turn. Once this is out you can keep paying and tapping to bring out two creatures each turn Kaalia attacks, doubling up on the damage.
CONTROL
By controlling the board we can paralyse opponents so we have more room to maneuver and pull off our schemes. I have chosen to include mainly white cards, so to utilise the full control power that the colour has to offer.
Grand Abolisher - This low drop creature holds so much value. We prevent our opponents from casting spells and resolving active abilities. This ensures we have pleanty of breathing room to do as we please without much fear of recourse.
Smothering Tithe - If you're running white in commander, why wouldn't you run this card! With the multiplayer element every turn we could be 4, maybe 6 mana up at our disposal in the form of treasure! And again disabling our opponents mana base for a turn if they feel like we do not deserve our treasure tokens.
Ghostly Prison - Enchantments, one are very evasive as not many decks will have a lot of answers for removing them at their disposal. Furthermore it protects us and our creatures as a means of deterring opponents due to the mana expense. If someone were to want to attack they will have to pay the cost, leaving them short of mana to deal with any other opponents onslaught.
Akroma, Angel of Wrath - Protection from red and black, evading burn and removal spells securing your board.
Angelic Arbiter - Nice revenge card for opponents who have attacked. Making them think twice about perhaps attacking you in the future? A nice card to save for political measures.
Chancellor of the Annex - Counter spells for a tax of one mana, again paralysing your opponents mana if they want to "play as they please". Also the opening hand ability is interesting if one game you are so lucky to pull!
Last and certainly not least, I want to delve into the win conditions and utility potential of this deck. We are trying to win and it is always nice to know we have answers to most of the problems that may arise.
WIN CONS
Many of the cards detailed in the three prime strategies are also win cons in my view, like Avacyn and the Balefire Dragon, however some cards in here stick out to me as more secure win cons in their own right and I did not want to repeat on some of the mass damage wielding creatures or intense control creatures here.
Master of Cruelties - Devastating and one of my personal favourites. It is certainly a long climb from one health!
Crux of Fate - Destroy all non-dragon creatures, if you opponents are not running a dragon heavy deck then they are in trouble!
Liliana Vess - Mass hoard of the your opponents graveyard! Only a board wipe could deal with your instant mass army.
Platinum Angel - Manipulate the game in your favour to secure the win.
