Commander: Kenrith, the Returned King

So the thing about stealing cards is that you want to, right? It's really fun to play with other peoples' cards instead of your own because of the chaos and variance it brings to every game; a real Johnny/Jenny sort of thing. However, people hate having their cards stolen because they not only lose their favorite cards but still have to look at them. Having my stuff taken from me is maybe my least favorite part of playing against theft style decks, and then I don't want to play with that person any more.

So the trick of this deck is to steal things that your opponents aren't using at the moment by drawing from the top of their deck. Well, truth be told they'll still get pretty annoyed but in a fun way and not a "wow I truly despise you" sort of way. When this deck was made, this was pretty hard to devote a whole deck to, but now it's shockingly easy. What you end up with is what I think of as the Magic equivalent of the move metronome in Pokemon. Every time you play you get completely different cards, and you'll be shocked how many times devastating combos emerge by combining two cards from the decks of different opponents.

Kenrith is an odd choice for a commander at first, but works for four reasons: One, this deck is very mana hungry early game and pretty color dependent besides, so you want access to green and its early land tutors early on (we try to prioritize 2 MV cards rather than 3 for this reason!) and the mana fixing abilities later game are very welcome. Secondly, there are good topdeck theft cards in Black, Blue, Green, and Red, because wizards can't seem to decide whether it's BUG or UBR. So we have both. Third, while Kenrith himself doesn't steal cards, you'll be surprised how often his abilities directly benefit the cards you've stolen. Steal a Homunculus Horde? Kenrith can draw cards for you. Steal a Sanguine Blood? Kenrith can gain life. Steal a Hardened Scale? You're never going to believe this, but Kenrith can do that too. The last reason that Kenrith is good for this deck is that Kenrith is just a really broken and powerful commander in general. He's good in this deck even though it has 3 total white mana symbols in it. Just have faith.
