KLD Season - Mono Green Pummeler

Standard Energy Mono-Green

ButteryPie

This was the Mono-Green Pummeler Deck that I played in Standard for the KLD Season, meaning no Aether Revolt Cards will be listed here.

As far as Pummeler decks go, this one is pretty much the quintessence of the Pummeler archetype.Combos, tricks and triggers are pretty basic, and are as follows:

Play Evolving Wilds to trigger Architect of the Untamed and/or Tireless Tracker, then activate Evolving Wilds to trigger those once again, either for energy ramp or card advantage

Play Larger Than Life when you have a good amount of Energy (Usually around 9 or 12 at minimum, I find) and an Electrostatic Pummeler on the field ready to swing. If you have a Blossoming Defense in hand that you haven't yet used to protect your Pummeler while waiting for the chane to play this combo, play it on Electrostatic Pummeler After you've played Larger than Life, and before you pay your energy to exponentially beef up your dude for the win.

Your best turn-1 play is and always will be Attune with Aether. Don't get caught up in how good Aether Hub is, if you have a Forest and Attune with Aether in your hand, play it. Any other move is a misplay, given that you have this set-up in your hand.

Don't forget that Bristling Hydra's energy ability gives it hexproof. The three energy might hurt if you're focused too much on building it up for Electrostatic Pummeler, but Hydra is a more valuable asset sometimes than you can properly gauge.

Whenever the opponent is open, I strongly advise considering attacking with Longtusk Cub as you can somewhat "future-proof" it and get yet another energy boost. However, I find that when I play this deck, I never consider Longtusk Cub to be a primary source of Energy, so think carefully. Typically opponents with a single 1/1 will also struggle with making "The Right Decision", with either taking it and giving you the energy, or letting one of their creatures go. Pro-Tip: There is no right decision for them, as I view this as a win no matter what.

The last tip I can offer you if you play with this deck is: Don't freak out about the land. It's 22 land, but often I've found that people are for whatever reason apprehensive about the number of Forests in the deck. I know it looks like it's not a lot, but you can really thrive both Attune with Aether, Aether Hub, and Evolving Wilds as assist cards. If you find that you struggle with this, consider removing Evolving Wilds and adding more Forests in their place.

While admittedly I've never placed 1st in the 5 or 6 FNM events that I have played this deck in, I have managed to consistently place in Top 3, Usually 3rd.
