Maybeboard

A budget deck about knights, who stand back and just send their squires into battle. And some falcons. And zombies. And devils. Time for exalted.

The simple strategy goes like this: Two-power one-drop on your first turn (War Falcon, Diregraf Ghoul or Rakdos Cackler) into a two-drop with exalted (Knight of Glory, Knight of Infamy or Aven Squire). The flexible Akrasan Squire can do both. Also thinking about putting in the Vault Skirge instead of the Cackler for evasion and lifegain over one point of power. It's easier to cast as well.

Silverblade Paladin grants double strike to someone without getting himself into trouble, much like his exalted buddies.

The rest is budget removal for the third turn onwards (Ultimate Price and Oblivion Ring, but those can be replaced by lots of other stuff aswell). Cathedral of War could be an option, but since the mana base is restricted by the budget already, it might make things a bit too awkward.

While spot removal doesn't really do much against exalted strategies and becomes more of a Fog, the deck is very vulnerable to wrath effects. Maybe an Immortal Servitude could ease some of the pain, but even then you're basically just getting back half of you creatures.

Optimally, it would go something like this:

  • Turn 1: Play 1st land, War Falcon. Opponent has 20 life.
  • Turn 2: Play 2nd land, any exalted guy. Falcon attacks for 3 damage. Opponent has 17 life.
  • Turn 3: Play 3rd land, Silverblade Paladin. Falcon attacks for 6 damage. Opponent has 11 life.
  • Turn 4: Play two other exalted guys. Falcon attacks for 10 damage. Opponent has 1 life. He wraths you.

Oh well.
