I'm a long time MTGO player who has recently cashed in for paper. I've played a wide variety of decks from Skred to Enduring Ideal. My favorite has always been interactive tempo type decks.

Why run Ramunap Excavator in hatebears?

The card itself is not very disruptive like landing a Thalia or a Leonin; however, Excavator synergises absurdly well with destruction lands like Ghost Quarter, Tec Edge, and soon, Fields of Run. In the right circumstances, it's actually possible to hard lock the opponent if you have a Leonon, Ghost Quarter, and Excavator in play. A Strip Mine every turn near impossible to beat.

If Excavator is so good, why are you playing only 2?

In multiples, Excavator is a 2/3 for three which is not very impressive. If we have a company in hand, our odds of hitting Excavator on turn 4 is 22% from opening hand, + 2% from drawing for 4 turns + 23% from Company = 47% chance. Remember that Excavator is a synergistic card. We aren't a combo deck.
