When it comes to choice of commander, I should note that I am horrible at deciding what colors to play. I never want to miss out on some dumb synergy. In this archetype, having more colors is great as it provides more options for utility lands, or at least that's that I tell myself. I prefer 5 color decks filled with all the other synergistic legendaries included. That being said, here are commanders I've considered:
Azusa, Lost but Seeking
Extra land drops are exactly what this deck wants. On the other hand, mono green restricts your choice of utility lands. She's an auto include for any of the other commanders.
Titania, Protector of Argoth
Very high power ceiling, perhaps second only to the Gitfrog. However the deck seems a little too linear for my tastes. 1-Play all the lands, 2- Sack all the lands, 3-Profit. Sweet with
Natural Balance
but I prefer her in the 99.
The Gitrog Monster
The only only commander here that can turn lands into a cEDH deck. If you want fast combos, he's your frog. If you're looking to play slower, more interactive games, he'll only paint a target on your head.
Tatyova, Benthic Druid
Great card draw, in the late game turning your dead ramp spells into valuable draws.
Borborygmos Enraged
Conceptually cool. In practice though, he's way worse than Angry Omnath.
Omnath, Locus of Rage
the premiere landfall payoff. I like him but he seems better with ramp spells that put more lands in play, which usually care about basics rather than letting you tutor for specific lands
Karametra, God of Harvests
I've tried playing her with a focus on landfall. It may be worth trying her with Second Sunrise + Titania, Protector of Argoth
so that it's possible to recover from disruption
Derevi, Empyrial Tactician
is sweet with
Seaside Haven
and
High Market
. Additionally there are 8 dual lands that are plains in bant so it's not unreasonable to run emeria the skyruin which is a sweet land that doesn't generally fit in 3+ color decks.
Tasigur, the Golden Fang
and
Maelstrom Wanderer
scale nicely with high land counts, letting you better control what their abilities hit. Unless you want to be in these color combinations for some reason, they're not particularly exciting.
Omnath, Locus of the Roil
is a worse Tatyova unless you like elementals. Again, not exciting
Lord Windgrace
While it's cool to have a planeswalker as your commander, he is vulnerable. It may be a meta consideration, but I've found that fragility to make him unplayable. Also generally powerful enough to warrant inclusion in decks with more colors.
Kynaios and Tiro of Meletis
hahahahaha. no.
Kenrith, the Returned King
Great mana sink. He's quickly becoming a go-to commander for 5c goodstuff. That being said, he doesn't scream lands and so isn't exciting.
