Lantern Control, a New Way for a New Standard

Hello and welcome to my deck! I've been working on this list for a while, so I'd love all the feedback I can get. Please note that, despite the prices of cards in the deck, I am on a budget. So no Avacyn.

For those curious, I named my deck after a modern control deck using Lantern of Insight to lock out an opponent. I'm also playing control, and also playing Lanterns. So it's "Lantern, Control" really.

The Idea

Like any good control deck, our goal is to run our opponent into the ground. We use a lot of burn spells- and I mean A LOT- to kill creatures and to go for the face when we want to close out a game. We have threats in the form of Planeswalkers and large/value-heavy creatures for when we have the board all clear. I decided to put in Brain in a Jar because it let's me spend mana in a way that let's me play more spells. It also can scry for a lot late game. And now it's time to get specific!

The Removal

3 Nahiri, the Harbinger- Nahiri is probably one of the best cards in the deck. Her -2 is just great. It gets rid of things that I wish weren't alive, and main board enchant removal is surprisingly useful.

2 Roast- This is just very efficient removal. It kills most everything in current standard.

2 Gideon's Reproach - Solid Removal, it'll hit Dragonlord Ojutai and Archangel Avacyn   when Roast can't.

3 Fiery Temper- This card works so well with my current cards. Nahiri, Tormenting Voice, it's generally just a Lightning Bolt.

3 Exquisite Firecraft- Very powerful burn spell. I've noticed that 4 damage seems to be a very good number for a burn spell. Bonus for not being counter-able.

1 Quarantine Field - This is my least favorite removal. But an O-Ring is an O-Ring, right?

1 Stasis Snare - This is better than I-Zone. Flash is really what makes the card good. So yeah, not much to say.

3 Avacyn's Judgment- This spell wins games. I've often Fireball'd someone for more than 8 damage. Great card both early and late.

3 Blighted Gorge - This card isn't great, but it does help a bit during combat. It's a land, doesn't hurt me.

The Threats

2 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar- This card is just great. It either makes tokens to swing, buffs all our other threats or is a 5/5 that just crashes in.

2 Pia and Kiran Nalaar- This is one of my favorite origins cards. Maybe this isn't the best card, but I've been having a lot of success with it.

3 Needle Spires- Man, this is a beating. It's just so good. Creature lands are really great in control decks, so yeah, this is wonderful.

2 Thought-Knot Seer- This is a wonderful beater. It's great on curve, and it basically makes it harder for the opponent to win. I probably need 2 more, it shores up my very weak ramp match-up. Seriously, eff Ulamog.

1 Odric, Lunarch Marshal- I'll just list my abilities: Haste, Double Strike, First Strike, Lifelink, Menace, Flying, Indestructible.

1 Ojutai Exemplars- This is really just a creature I want to try out, but I do like it a lot. More testing is needed.

Card Advantage

3 Tormenting Voice- Madness outlet and card draw makes Voice a pretty good card. I like it.

3 Nahiri, the Harbinger- Pretty self-explanitory. Free madness.

2 Insolent Neonate- Free madness, some extra cards, it's pretty fine.

3 Brain in a Jar- An incredibley powerful card, works great when you can super bolt for a single mana, and it's scry ability is just amazing.

3 Seer's Lantern- This card wins games. It seems like a lowly draft common, but this is the namesake card for a reason. The advantage of cheap scry every turn is amazing.
