Lathiel, the commander I never expected to love! During spoiler season I saw "gain life" and "+1/+1 counters" and just dismissed this glorious stallion as a little kid commander, but I've definitely come around, as Lathiel has the spice for grown-ups too.

To get Lathiel humming we've got plenty of repeatable lifegain effects, in the form of ETB sisters( Soul Warden , Essence Warden , and their ilk) or lifelinking beaters. People might scoff at Beloved Princess or Knight of Meadowgrain , and maybe normally they'd be justified, but when their power more than doubles every turn your opponents won't scoff for long.

Of course, that's the kiddie stuff. When you want to feel like a adult, Lathiel also can be a value engine, pushing cards that use +1/+1 counters as resources to incredible heights. Ramp to the moon with Fertilid , blow up everything with Steelbane Hydra and Triskelion , or just keep the party going with Spike Feeder . Lathiel will make you believe again!
