Earthquakes, Famines, and Pestilences

This focuses on stalling your opponents with pox and lifegain long enough to set up an infinite combo. Also, people really hate having to sacrifice land so be weary.

Smallpox is not that crazy of a card. It's annoying sure, but it affects the caster and takes a bit of setup. However it's super easy to build around. Flagstones of Trokair and Sorin's creature revival are good for making up for the downsides. But Martyr's Bond and Crucible of Worlds easily turn Smallpox unfair.

  • Crucible of Worlds - Simple pick for recycling sacrificed lands, almost necessary. In combination with Flagstones of Trokair or Marsh Flats it thins the deck out for better draw chance.

  • Martyr's Bond - Amazing if you can get it on the field, even for just a turn. You can wreak a lot of havoc before the table has had enough and it's inevitably destroyed. If it isn't then it's a good way to discourage anyone from targeting your side of the battlefield. Otherwise Smallpox, Braids, Arisen Nightmare, and any other sac outlet becomes a mini board wipe each time.

  • Vampire Hexmage - Already a great commander remover but since it only costs Sorin -2 to revive her she becomes a little broken. Although it's probably best to use this as a bargaining chip if it's already on the field.

I don't own Entomb, Fatal Push, or Luminous Broodmoth and I'm just not sure what to replace for it if I were to get them

Zulaport Cutthroat and Pawn of Ulamog are more Blood Artist and Pitiless Plunderer. Just weaker.

Black Cat, No Mercy, Silversmote Ghoul were good just not good enough.

Duress/Thoughtseize and those types of cards were great for 1v1 but not worth screwing over one person in multiplayer. Burglar Rat is better despite the extra .

Poxwalkers fit thematically, but didn't synergize well enough.

Been playing Oathbreaker since it came under my radar after getting recognized by WOTC (I definitely have my opinions about the format, but that's not what I'm here for). Immediately I wanted to make a Sorin deck and, while Sorin, Imperious Bloodlord first came to mind, I really like orzhov. I already owned a copy of Sorin, Vengeful Bloodlord and one of my modern decks is centered around Smallpox so the idea was already there. Also, the name "Lifegain Lesion" in reference to my other deck was really appealing at the time. Originally this was suppose to play as wide vampires like the other deck, but has now turned into aristocrat control (why I changed the name to something less misleading).

After two months this deck is 90+% finished. I find myself struggling to find cards to replace when I want to test new ones. This being my first Oathbreaker deck it will always have a place in my heart and I will continue to update it in the future.

Updates Add

I considered adding more card draw with the help of Mangara, the Diplomat. Then Trouble in Pairs came out which is better. Benched Edgar  Flip for it. It's a step away from vampire tribal but worth it overall. Unfortunately I'm not a sadist so I don't get as much fun out of Strip Mine and Wasteland as I could've, great additions though.
