Deck updated: Well I'm honestly happy that Mycosynth Lattice got banned, it was such a broken tool and I don't want my deck to rely on that card. I replaced it with some good stuff like Trinisphere, there are also some new guys that joined our artifacts explosive madness like Phyrexian Soulgorger (he's a real nice dude with ou current artifact base! and all the 3cmc stuff going on in the deck!) Check the changes! It's still my favorite deck to play C:

By the way, this is not a deck for serious competitions. I play it with friends and during mtg's friday nights. This is a budget-friendly deck, made for fun and for the love of creating themed decks :)

A simple warning before we start: don't get too fond of your cute little artifact creatures; they gonna die a lot in this deck! innocent smile

This is my red version of the green Liquimetal Deck. I tried Green, Simic and Izzet, but mono-red is my favorite.

One of the differences is that it has a lot less creatures, (12 instead of 26+; I don't count Simian Spirit Guide because you'll never actually play it as a creature). I found to be too vulnerable to rely on (I'm talking about mana elves and birbs). I use Simian Spirit Guide and Mycosynth Wellspring instead for early mana stabilizer. I also have a lot less artifact destruction than the mono-green liquimetal. Why, you ask?

Firstly, in my experience with the liquimetal deck, it could do nothing without Liquimetal Coating. Sure, I use it too, but I can burn my opponent while I search for it or for my Karn, the Great Creator. Burns spells and my pesky creatures that keep coming back buy me a lot of time and even wins. Trust me, they will stop attacking at some point and wait for their good card to come out of their library. That's why you target their lovely lands! Pillage and Karn, the Great Creator + Liquimetal Coating are your weapons of choice! Or liquimetal and any "destroy artifact" effect.

Also, relying more on burn and artifacts myself allows me to have more than just Liquimetal as my wincon. All the cards works really well together, so I'm still pretty active without liquimetal. I'll be destroying things on both sides until the real fun begins with karn on the battlefield and his coating.

The perfect scenario (of course it can't always be the case) will be an early Karn with Liquimetal. Then I can proceed to destroy an opponent's land each turn while I burn him and lock his play. But even without it, I have various burns and Pia's Revolution to play around.

I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I do! Comments appreciated!

So, about the deck:

Burns:

Lightning Bolt : Plain and simple. One of the best 1-drop that every red deck should have. Bolt the Bird, they say!

Magma Jet : 2 damage for 2 isn't that bad as you can target low-toughness threats or ping your opponent. What is really good for us is the Scry 2 ability, very rare in red. If you prefer, Abrade can be a good alternative with Liquimetal or your own artifacts, but it might affect your deck stability.

Pia's Revolution : This is one of the two cores of the deck. It will either burn your opponent rapidly until they don't have the choice anymore to let you have your Myrs and artifacts back. Great combo with Perilous Myr or Pyrite Spellbomb. The Spellbomb was actually my win-con a few times, since you should have enough mana to spam it mid-game. Another funny synergy is to use Liquimetal Coating on your Field of Ruin or Ghost Quarter, and then sac the land, get it back or do 3 damage. One last combo that might be worth to do sometimes is to use liquimetal on your Mountains and then Shrapnel Blast them, if you really need that 5 damage to unlock Pia's potential and can't lose any other artifacts. But do that at your own risk, you could lose your land instead of getting it back! ;)

Pyrite Spellbomb : Another surprisingly good 1-drop. Set it on first turn and then wait for the good opportunity to use. You can destroy early threats or burn your opponent, Shrapnel it, or draw a card if you need too. Then with Pia's Revolution, things get spicy. You can do 5, 8 or 12 damage in one to two turn if you have both and/or Shrapnels. Pretty neat for a polyvalent 1 mana card. This is one of the win-con of the deck, as it synergies with almost everything and can finish opponents fast ( with the other cards mentionned).

Shrapnel Blast : Our best burn spell. Deals 1/4 of the opponent's life with 2 mana, and we can do more if it's a Perilous Myr or if we have Pia's Revolution in play. Also, you can sac your Mountains with it, ahah... I like to think of them as volcanos at that point. Anyway, more burn is good (for us)!

Perilous Myr : Cheap creature that can get a lot of things done. Block for a turn? Sure. Burn your opponent for 2? Yes! Potentially kill two creatures for one? Could do that. It will make them think before attacking you, especially as they get low on life and you get Pia's Revolution or Myr Retriever in play. Oh, and of course it's an artifact, too! It means that you can Shrapnel it for 7 damage if you really hate your opponent (not that they will like you anyway with that deck), up to 10 with Pia :) Now, where's that popcorn...

Land Destruction:

Field of Ruin & Ghost Quarter : Nothing much to say, I think we all know them well nowaday. They are great if you want to split the colors of your opponent, and in the case of the Field, to remove the mountains from your library. Reusable with Pia's and Liquimetal in play.

Karn, the Great Creator : The other keystone of the deck. Our main source of land destruction with its +1 ability and Liquimetal Coating. You can also animate your artifacts with it, which is great since we have only 8 creatures, and they will die pretty quick. With its -2, you can get your precious Liquimetal in sideboard or any card for the situation. It can also lock a card with its passive ability. A disaster for any affinity faceoff. With Mycosynth Lattice, it's pretty much a win for you.

Liquimetal Coating : I think it's Karn's "new" best friend. Anything you transmute to artifact will help your Karn. You can also use it on your own permanents (mountains) if you want to blast them. It's an easy land desctruction each turn if you have your planeswalker on the battlefield. Great synergy with Pia's Revolution also.

Mana Fix :

Mycosynth Wellspring : That's the perfect card we needed to balance our low land amount. It will help us get our 4 lands needed for Karn, and with the Wellspring it's actually fairly easy. Then you will either use Shrapnel on it, or animate it with Karn for a 2/2 that will get you another mountain. It's also an artifact, so it means that it works with Pia's Revolution.

Simian Spirit Guide : Best mana ramp in red. I don't think I ever used it as a creature, so I don't count it in my creatures total. What is really good is that you don't need to cast it or put in battlefield to get your mana boost. Allows early Wellspring to fix your land needs (with 2 lands you can still play most of your cards), turn 1 Liquimetal or turn 2-3 Karn.

It's important to consider a mulligan if you don't have them or don't have 2 lands to begin with. Drawing a land might be hard without the Wellspring, so don't count too much on land draw!

Graveyard Exploitation :

Myr Retriever Scrap Trawler : Our other creature. Let us get our Mycosynth Wellspring, Perilous Myr or Pyrite Spellbomb back, and any card from the sideboard that was destroyed/killed ( like Ratchet Bomb. Not good offensive creatures, but since it's an artifact too you can do some nice graveyard exploits with Pia's Revolution and you can always Shrapnel it, of course :)

Karn, the Great Creator + Liquimetal Coating , Field of Ruin + Liquimetal Coating + Pia's Revolution , Perilous Myr + Pia's Revolution , Pia's Revolution + Pyrite Spellbomb , Myr Retriever + Pia's Revolution , Perilous Myr + Shrapnel Blast , Mycosynth Wellspring + Shrapnel Blast , Liquimetal Coating + Mountain + Shrapnel Blast .
An honorable mention: with Wellsprings and Fields of Ruin thinning our library's land amount, Goblin Charbelcher + Mountain You can theorically reveal all your library if you have no more lands in library, then rearrange it as you like. Or at least you will reveal a mountain and deal double damage. It can escalate rapidly with only 16 lands in the deck, and I did it few times, up to 22 damage once. I have to admit that the game never extended to the point that I had no more lands; usually one of us dies before that! But it's a nice little artifact to have in sideboard, as you could also animate it with Karn if you really need too. You should have the 4 colorless mana to play it if you have Karn out, and a 4/4 creature isn't nothing to finish your opponent if you prefer to save your mana instead of using its ability.

More to come :

Panel Content

Ensnaring Bridge : If you have one or the money, can be great in sideboard against aggro or elves. You could also animate it as a 3/3 to finish someone.

They might be worth considering, depending of what do you play against usually. For myself, they aren't worth replacing my ratchet bombs since I play often against tokens. Spirits especially can be a big menace for me, so I chose the bombs. Only thing I'd like to add are the bridge and maybe Abrade. Abrade: in place of Magma Jet, if you don't need the scry 2 and would rather try your luck in getting an early Liquimetal Coating for a cheap land destruction. It can also kill most creatures at the begining of a match of trigger your artifacts that have to die. Personnaly, I prefer Magma Jet right now, also considering that Abrade cost a little more money. I will try it later. Tel-Jilad Stylus : I didn't try it, but it could be great against white or golgari. I don't know if it's worth a slot in sideboard tho. Young Pyromancer: Can be great agaisnt aggro too. I'm not sure we have the deck for it, but you decide. I didn't put it in sideboard, as I prefer Sweltering Suns and Ratchet Bomb.

Things to test:

So I was thinking about how Phyrexian Soulgorger + Saheeli, Sublime Artificer would go together, because you know, one 8/8 is nice, but two is better right? But I'm not sure it got it's place in the deck, even in 1x or 2x. I'll try it out! Also all those Servo artifacts sounds like great food in my opinion. Goblin Engineer and Shrapnel Blast says: "yes please"!
