This deck is my take on the W/R Vehicles deck that swept to victory at SCG Indy. There are a few different card choices than Team Cardhoarder had, due to local metagame considerations, my own playstyle, and because I think they have better synergy with the deck. I've yet to take it against an actual opponent, but it has beat a slew of decks that I can find online, including all of the top 8 from SCG Indy with pretty decent regularity.
The card choices that I have that differ from CVM's list are:
Inventor's Apprentice: A slightly larger threat and my replacement for
thraben investigator
because I run more artifacts in the deck, and mine is more of a red base rather than a white base. Crews everything except the Boat.
Chief of the Foundry: I know, I know, I should be running Depala, Pilot Exemplar. She refills your hand, she is a lord for not only the vehicles, but the dwarves, is a 3/3, etc. But what I don't like about her, is that you can't stack her. You can stack Chiefs. Also the mana cost is easier for Chief so you can leave your mana open for other things. And this deck is perfectly okay with having an empty hand.
Renegade Freighter: My replacement for Fleet-Wheel Cruiser. Cruiser is a fine card and a beater at that, but I wanted a comparable threat a turn earlier. The Train is a 5/4 attacking trampler by itself, and a 6/5 with Veteran Motorist or Chief for 3. It may not have haste, but it hits just as hard, earlier on curve. It also has the crew req. of 2, which is another reason to run Apprentice.
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar: I like having Gideon maindeck because he's a pain in the ass to deal with. He generates crew out of thin air to help keep your copters and trains moving after sweepers and he's a beater by himself, obviously. A nice synergy i like with him is you can run him out the turn after The Boat, plus him, and use him to pilot Skysovereign, Consul Flagship, much to flavor confusion.
Fiery Temper: I like having this around to get more value off Smuggler's Copter looting, stole this idea from the R/B version.
Harnessed Lightning: I like having instant speed removal, especially if everyone and their mother is running Copter. This also works pretty well with Aether Hub because if you've got all the colors you need, this can be a 4 damage removal spell.
Lupine Prototype: The main difference from the norm, and the reason I built the deck. This guy is a 5/5 for 2 generic mana and while before he couldn't do a damn thing unless you were chalk full of madness cards, now he crews everything. He can crew Copter to allow your other creatures to attack next to the copter. At 5 toughness, he's harder to take down with red removal and Grasp of Darkness. He is a 2 drop that can crew Skysovereign. He's a 2 drop artifact, which turns on your one drops. And late game, he is simply a beatstick.
As for the sideboard, Authority of the Consuls to combat faster aggro decks, Fragmentize for the mirror, Galvanic Bombardment if you need to go more controlly, another Gideon, Ally of Zendikar against control, Selfless Spirit against more removal, Skywhaler's Shot against bigger creatures, and Weaver of Lightning for times that the deck needs to move a more control mode. The sideboard will likely change based on the metagame that I see at the next tournament, but as it stands, I tried to cover the bases.
Give her a whirl, let me know what you think. Play it against your own brews, and let me know if you find something that stomps it! lol
