This is NOT your standard Mill deck and isn’t particularly competitive in Modern, but it is definitely a fun take on Modern Mill.

Landfall Mill:

Hedron Crab & Ruin Crab mill on Landfall.

Oboro, Palace in the Clouds allows us to play a land every single turn, by constantly returning Oboro to our hand.

Draw-to-Mill:

Teferi's Tutelage is key to the Draw-to-Mill strategy, as it forces an opponent to mill 2 cards for every card we draw.

Teferi's Ageless Insight, Jace, Wielder of Mysteries, Jace Beleren, Frantic Inventory, & Dark Deal all help to increase the amount of cards we are able to draw, which boosts the strength of our Draw-to-Mill.

Discard-to-Mill:

Mystic Redaction is our key for Discard-to-Mill, allowing us to get value out of discarding cards.

Bone Shards, when paired with Mystic Redaction, allows us to destroy creatures and mill our opponent at the same time.

Dark Deal, if paired with both Mystic Redaction + Teferi's Tutelage , becomes extremely powerful:

  • Forces opponent to discard their hand;
  • Triggers Mystic Redaction when we discard our own hand;
  • Forces opponent to draw a new hand*;
  • Triggers Teferi's Tutelage when we draw our new hand.

*If we have Consecrated Sphinx in play, this will allow us to draw more cards because our opponent is drawing cards, which further mills our opponent with Teferi's Tutelage.

Furthermore, both the drawing from Dark Deal and Consecrated Sphinx are further enhanced by Teferi's Ageless Insight, which means we draw twice as many cards for both, which also means our opponent mills twice as many cards for both. The more pieces of this combo we have in play when we use Dark Deal, the more powerful it becomes. This essentially becomes our kill card, wiping out more than half of our opponent’s deck in one go.

If we’ve already hit our opponent with Maddening Cacophony, Fractured Sanity, or Glimpse the Unthinkable, then playing Dark Deal should be game over.
