Re:Nature of the Beast

Marath is a very interesting commander. For starters, he has the ability to go infinite with Doubling Season for counters if you find yourself generating infinite colorless mana. Which is so easy to do! Marath combos with several other cards for near infinite and infinite effects!

The deck here is by no means an infinite deck, but I'm addressing infinite combos first, as they can close out games the fastest and winning is, after all, the ultimate goal of a deck.

Combos with Marath
* Marath, Will of the Wild + Mana Echoes - This is my favorite combo in the deck without going infinite. Marath's ability says you can pay one mana to choose a modal effect. If you've read my updates, I've found that the best use of his ability is to swarm the battlefield with 1/1 elementals. Well, that hasn't changed and my resolve has since strengthened on the subject. You want Marath to die. You want to cast it again. You WANT more counters. But, why spend more than 1 mana to remove all of those counters? Mana echoes triggers right after you make a 1/1, generating 2 (counting Marath for , and the token itself for another). If Marath has 3 counters, you can now remove the rest for free. It doesn't matter how many counters are on Marath, if you're making 1/1s, every one passed the first is free. Cool huh?

Marath, Will of the Wild + Doubling Season/Primal Vigor - This one is very simple. Pay , where X is the number of counters on Marath minus one (so he doesn't die) and add twice that many counters to himself. Rinse and repeat until you can't pay the cost anymore. Have infinite mana? Rinse and repeat infinitely and have an infinite/infinite Marath. Now use that infinite mana and counters to generate infinite tokens or burn for infinite damage. Game = won at this point. Marath's ability being activated, it can be activated in response to anything, so there's really very scarce ways around this. (Sidenote: Adding Ashnod's Altar to this allows you to skip adding the counters to Marath first, and you can just straight up go for making tokens to get your combo off)

Marath, Will of the Wild + Ashnod's Altar + Cathars' Crusade - Marath removes a counter to make a token. Marath and all other creatures on your side get a +1/+1 counter. Sacrifice the token for 2 . Spend to make another token, put a counter on marath, remove the counter, make a token, generate 2 onto infinity. This results in all your remaining creatures being infinite/infinites, infinite colorless mana in your pool, and you can make infinite tokens.

Great, now that that's out of the way, here's a description. My card choices should be self explanatory.

Marath, Will of the Wild is the most flexible general I have ever laid eyes on. He has targeted removal, burn, the ability to make any size token, and he can beef up other creatures. He also only cost 3 mana. He is amazing and in perfect colors. With strong support and utility cards, this is a very competitive commander. I am open to any and all suggestions but if you're going to tell me to add a card, tell me what you think it should replace, and try to argue your case. The deck is in a very stable state right now so I will be ignoring comments that go something like "hi u shuld ad wurld spine worm. its rly kool"
