You hear the beat of a thousand hooves over the horizon. The battle-cries of a legion of Minotaurs shakes the very ground you stand on. You ready yourself, a lone warrior in a sea of horns and blades. And as the herd approaches, you can see the bloodlust in their eyes, the fury in their movements. You brace for impact...

Then, there is nothing.

Where is the herd? Where is the approaching army? You feel as if your head is collapsing. Your memory failing, your mind crumbling. And as you fall to the earth, a lone Minotaur steps up behind you.

"You are unworthy of my herd."

Since I've started playing MtG, back when Journey into Nyx dropped, I've had an unnatural affection towards minotaurs. When I saw that Amonkhet was boasting a legendary Minotaur, I couldn't help but build him a deck.

This deck runs in two ways; heavy aggressive tribal minotaurs and pushing value out of discards. Put the two together and you'll have a good time.

Most of your threat is going to be generated by your ever amassing army of minotaurs. With strong tribal support from cards like Cover of Darkness and Coat of Arms , you will want to keep the heat up on your opponents. Make sure to be swinging in with Neheb, the Worthy whenever you can to capitalize on his effects.

You'll be keeping pressure up around the board, and speeding the pace of the game up with cards like Furnace of Rath , Havoc Festival , and Avatar of Slaughter . Keep the fight going strong, keep the damage up, and you'll soon find life totals draining fast.

The Rakdos make sure their victims remember their pain—or at least give up a little bit of their sanity in order to forget.



One of the very strong themes of Neheb, and therefore the deck, is discard. Thus this deck is full of cards to capitalize off of Neheb's effect, and keep card counts for the enemies low. The less cards in the hands of the opponents, the better off you'll be. Use cards like Oppression and Painful Quandary to punish your opposition for existing, and laugh in their face as they take ever stacking damage from Megrim and Liliana's Caress .

Just because the deck seems simple on the surface doesn't mean there can't be some combo fun.

Megrim + Pain Magnification + Any Damage Doubler = Empties entire hand instantly.

Neheb, the Eternal + Aggravated Assault = Infinite combat steps as long as you get 5 damage in each time.

One of my big concerns when I first built this deck was card advantage. Card advantage is the key to any EDH deck, and thus I've made sure to include a fair amount. You'll generate relative card advantage by destroying the opponents hands, but you risk stalling due to a lack of your own hand. Cards like Erebos, God of the Dead , Temple Bell , and Blood Scrivener help keep your hand in a healthy state while you laugh at your pitiful foes and their lack of cards.

- Merciless Javelineer , Deathbellow Raider , Gorehorn Minotaurs , Kragma Butcher , Minotaur Aggressor , Frontline Devastator , Bloodrage Brawler , Minotaur Sureshot , Taurean Mauler , Cursed Minotaur , Tahngarth, Talruum Hero : Simple, brutal beaters. They may not bring crazy utility, but what is a minotaur deck without minotaurs?

- Fanatic of Mogis : Devotion to red can build quickly with all our enchantments, and with all the damage multiplication this can be devastating.

- Karplusan Minotaur : While he can blow up in your face, coin flipping is fun.

- Felhide Spiritbinder : Two mana isn't a lot to give up for another beater. Value is strong.

- Lord of Shatterskull Pass : Great manasink for later i nthe game when your hand is empty.

- Neheb, the Eternal : Looks like our friend Neheb passed away and joined the glorious afterlife of the eternals. Not only does he hit like a truck, but the extra mana can really come in handy later in the game.

- Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion : Neheb once again returns to the battlefield, ready to smash some faces! Allowing hand cycling and mana generation, Neheb is ready to keep our offense healthy.

- Adaptive Automaton , Metallic Mimic : While they may not naturally be minotaurs, they still support the tribe, therefore they are allowed to run with the herd.

- Anaba Ancestor : While not the greatest, he still is a valued member of the pack that can support a friend early game or swing in late game.

- Anaba Spirit Crafter , Rageblood Shaman , Felhide Petrifier , Kragma Warcaller : Some lords and psuedo-lords of the tribe, their benifits are much appreciated!

- Ragemonger : One of my favorite cards of all time, that cost orangeuction can be insane for pumping out minotaurs. Works especially well with Neheb, since he is only .

- Cover of Darkness : Minotaurs are deadly, Minotaurs with fear are deadlier. Evasion is always welcome here.

- Coat of Arms : The classic tribal card. A powerhouse in any semi-tribal deck it's used in.

- Didgeridoo : Play me the song of our people and let's cheat out some minotaurs!

- Vanquisher's Banner : A nice buff to your minotaurs, and can provide some nice card advantage later on.

- Sire Of Insanity : One of the few non-minotaur creatures in the deck, Sire is hilarious. Nobody gets to keep cards. Don't even ask.

- Bottomless Pit , Necrogen Mists : No-nonsense discard enablers. Straight to the point, no muss no fuss.

- Painful Quandary , Oppression : You wanted to play spells? Oh, I'm sorry. Gonna have to pay up. Punish everyone for complicating life with their spells.

- Pain Magnification : Your minotaurs will already generally be hitting for at least 3 damage, so this isn't hard to trigger.

- Rix Maadi, Dungeon Palace : It's a land, and it's a great late game mana sink. Doesn't hurt to have.

- Key to the City : Helps empty your hand, and guarantees Neheb gets in for some damage and discard.

- Nihilistic Glee : Another card to help empty your hand, and helps you nab extra cards if the need should so dictate.

- Liliana's Caress , Megrim , Raiders' Wake : Make the enemies suffer even more as they watch their cards filter into the graveyard. It's made even more fun by all the damage multipliers.

- Quest for the Nihil Stone : Getting 5 counters on this should be incorangeibly easy, and whittling away 5 life a turn on top of all the other damage is pretty good.

- Waste Not : A classic discard staple, why not benefit from all the discarding going around?

- Anthem of Rakdos : It gives a nice little attack boost to begin with, and the hellbent clause makes every source of yours hit that much harder. Two very nice bonuses.

- Gratuitous Violence : While it only helps creatures hit harder, it also only works on your creatures, so you don't have to worry about taking double damage from your enemies!

- Furnace of Rath , Dictate of the Twin Gods : Pretty similar, very simple. Everything hits twice as hard on everything.

- Dolmen Gate : Since you want to be smashing faces with your minotaurs, you will want a way to keep them alive. The gate does exactly that.

- Geth's Grimoire : While the goal is to have a small hand, you will still need cards to keep you going strong later in the game.

- Key to the City : This card provides two benefits to the deck: you ge tot empty your hand quicker to gain Neheb's bonus, and you can make Neheb unblockable, leading to more juicy 'taur damage.

- Sol Ring : Do you need me to explain this one.

- Temple Bell : Makes sure you always have cards to work with and something for the opponents to discard.

- Whip of Erebos : Provides a consistent source of lifegain, and can have some temporary recursion in its activated ability.

- Aggravated Assault : A great mana sink for later on when you have an empty hand.

- Berserkers' Onslaught : Double Strike. Enough said. Also Neheb's discard effect will trigger twice, which is nice.

- Havoc Festival : This card is hilarious. Not only does it negate decks like Trostani, but it puts a clock on the game. It WILL end soon unless you really want to waste resources dealing with me.

- Terminate , Hero's Downfall , Dreadbore , Unlicensed Disintegration : Four simple removal spells. Two of them even hit walkers.

- Abandon Hope : See "Discard Outlets"

- Rakdos's Return : Deals some hefty damage and makes them discard cards. Good mana sink.

- Mogis, God of Slaughter : Good card, hard hitter, and flavor win.

- Blood Scrivener : Keeps card advantage up, especially since you'll be cycling through your hand quickly.

- Erebos, God of the Dead : Brings utility by disabling life gain, while giving an outlet for card advantage.

- Angrath, the Flame-Chained : 100% flavor win, +1 directly supports our strategy, and the ultimate can be devastating.
