This deck uses a low-to-the-ground wizard creature shell to gain recurring value and cast and recur larger instants and sorceries.

We consider life to be a resource first and foremost with this deck. We don't want to be on the throne, so creatures like treasonous ogre, and enchantments like unspeakable symbol, can let us dump life quickly. Our mana base also features pain lands to keep our life total tamped down. Other players may view this as reckless, that is their loss. We do need some pieces to stabilize our life total as the game progresses however. Shadowspear, and Whip of Erebos give us the lifelink we need.

Early game can be spent setting up engines and playing out cheap value pieces, and getting them running with Marchesa. We run a package of ritual effects such as dark ritual to help propel us into the midgame. Creature and non-creature counterspells such as Voidmage Prodigy and Glen Elendra Archmage take advantage of Marchesa's reliable recursion ability. Cryptic Pursuit is a value superstar, especially if it manifests instants and sorceries off our deck.

We can disrupt our opponents by stealing their stuff using Cytoplast Manipulator, Sower of Temptation, or Thief of Sanity (one of the few non-wizards in the deck).

Our entire strategy is enabled chiefly by our sacrifice outlets. Anhelo, the Painter lets us bin a creature with 2 or more power to copy an instant or sorcery. Flesh Carver is a wizard that beefs itself up so it can be reliably reanimated by Marchesa. Ashnod's Altar, Viscera Seer, and Phyrexian Altar are virtually auto-includes.

Our supplementary recursion package can have a multiplicative effect on other parts of the deck. Cormela, Glamour Thief, and Archeomancer let us recur instants and sorceries with high efficiency. Their ETB effects and death effects are easily leveraged by Marchesa. Apprentice Necromancer lets us lift creatures out of the graveyard, and can be recurred by Marchesa for repeated value; and Patriarch's Bidding can be a huge blowout, considering our wizard subtheme. Reanimate and Unearth are sorcery speed low cost reanimations directly to the battlefield. Increasing Vengeance copies our instants and sorceries.

If you draw into any of your tutors, prioritize first a sac outlet, followed by a recurrable tutor like Imperial Recruiter or Spellseeker, followed by a recurrable reanimator for instants and sorceries; the engine you are trying to build will have you swinging, triggering multiple draws, tutors, and reanimates with each turn. Once you can cycle each of your packages in and out of the graveyard at will you'll be able to simply out-value your opponents.

We close out the game a few ways. Insurrection lets us steal everything. With Marchesa we can make that permanent. Exsanguinate can be cast in conjunction with rituals, or copied by Anhelo or Primal Wellspring to close out a game. Living Death is self-explanatory. Sage of Hours lets us take another turn for 15 life if we use Unspeakable Symbol to power it. Thousand-Year Storm outvalues.
