Marchesa, the Black Rose with the help of Novijen Sages and Unspeakable Symbol prevent the majority of the field from ever dying. Most equipment is used to equip to Marchesa to her from dying, seeing that she is essential for the deck to work. Sengir Autocrat is used to bring in token creatures to sacrifice to Ashnod's Altar for extra mana, and throw more +1/+1 counters onto Deathbringer Thoctar. If Ruthless Deathfang is on the field while this happens, all triggers are repeated. Novijen Sages is used to throw 3 +1/+1 counters on things as they come in, leaving one +1/+1 counter, only to die, and create 4 more, recycling this method. Grimgrin, Corpse-Born, Ashnod's Altar, and Bloodflow Connoisseur can be used to sacrifice Novijen Sages to generate more counters, or other cards with effects triggered when entering the battlefield, or used to generate counters on Deathbringer Thoctar to deal direct damage to creatures or players. Exava, Rakdos Blood Witch provides haste to all creatures with +1/+1 counters. Unspeakable Symbol can be used to prevent the player from Throning, and throw +1/+1 counters on creatures. Flayer of the Hatebound, Blood Artist, Zulaport Cutthroat, Warstorm Surge, Purphoros, God of the Forge, and Stalking Vengeance using Ashnod's Altar as a Sacrifice outlet deals massive amounts of damage to players or creatures while generating massive amounts of mana and/or life, and then return creatures from the graveyard proportional to their damage constantly, thanks to Marchesa, the Black Rose's ability. Other cards are used for draw power, tokens, and playing from the graveyard (i.e. Archaeomancer, Sidisi, Undead Vizier, etc.)
