Sideboard

The update below relays the fate of this deck: I'm going to see it how runs sans-White. This deck will be archived for future reference. Feel free to build off of it!

Regional's is coming up in NC, and I plan on running a Mardu Aggro deck as best as I can. Goblin Rabblemaster and Brutal Hordechief look really strong together, as do the attrition engine that is Bloodsoaked Champion + Tymaret, the Murder King. Seriously, check out BBD's versus video from last week for a sample of how much Tymaret warps the game when he's out.

While I like BBD's list, I don't want to be as heavily white as his, meaning less Raise the Alarm. When testing his list, I found myself dealing an alarming amount of damage to myself, and it was mainly to facilitate turn 1 Bloodsoaked Champion into turn 2 Raise the Alarm into turn 3 Hordeling Outburst. Ouch. Instead, the only white I'm running is in the removal suite: Crackling Doom and Valorous Stance. This type of deck's biggest obstacle is Courser of Kruphix and Valorous Stance cuts right through it, while also not being dead against removal-heavy match-ups. Crackling Doom is just here to kill threats and deal damage; I want to try Benjamin Nikolich's decision to run two main, and two side.

To give myself a few more creatures that interact with my deck while staying red or black, I again borrowed from Benjamin's list to try 4 Monastery Swiftspear. It's just a test, but on paper it looks incredibly powerful.

To round out the main deck we have 3 Outpost Siege which prove to be a powerful card; maybe not as explosive as Frontier Siege but the pseudo-card advantage of Khans combined with the synergy of Dragons makes this stand out. I've tested with two, and I want to step it up to three. Lightning Strike and Stoke the Flames are both great removal and great reach, though an argument could be made for a 4-2 split of either, so I'm testing with three of each. Finally Hordeling Outburst because Three. Dudes. SERIOUSLY.

The sideboard is more of cards I want to try out rather than cards honed for specific match-ups. Glare of Heresy and Erase are also being considered for it. Thoughtseize and Hero's Downfall say "I don't want to lose to turn 4 Ugin" and to a lesser extent, Hornet Queen. Also Drown in Sorrow beats us up a lot.

So after swapping Tymaret with Stormbreath + Temple in the sideboard, I ran this list at SCG Regionals in Raleigh, NC, and went 6-3 to finish 43rd. You can read a recap of my tournament experience here
